Stephen Crousore and Ruth Langley
and their descendants

Stephen Crousore was born 16 July 1818 in Ohio and died 2 January 1900 in Liberty Township, Howard County, Indiana. He married Ruth Langley, daughter of Jonathan Langley and Hannah Smith, on 7 October 1841 in Delaware County, Indiana. They were the parents of the following children:

  1. Francis Crousore was born in 1844 in Howard County, IN, and died there on 6 Jul 1905. He married Sirena Hiatt 5 Mar 1866.
  2. Hannah E. Crousore was born 17 Mar 1847, Howard County, IN, and died there 4 Feb 1881. She married John Stack on 22 Mar 1866 in Howard County.
  3. John W. Crousore was born 23 Oct 1848 in Howard County, IN, and died there on 1 Jul 1916. He married twice - Eva Galloway in 1860 and Rebecca Lang in 1872.
  4. Martha E. Crousore was born 13 March 1851 in Howard County, IN, and died there in Oct 1852.
  5. Albert Crousore was born in 1853 in Howard County, IN, and died there in 1927. He married Josephine Gearhead in 1881.
  6. Alfred Crousore was born in 1853 and died there in 1919. He married Teenie Burton in 1887.
  7. Tolbert Crousore was born in 1855 in Howard County, IN. He married Cynthia Walker in 1875.
    1. Omar Crousore was born about 1878.

  8. James L. Crousore was born 7 Feb 1859 in Howard County, IN, and died 12 Dec 1897. He married Mary Lucinda Berry.
    1. Curtis Columbus Crouser was born 18 April 1887 in Howard County, IN.
  9. Rebecca J. Crousore was born in 1861 in Howard County, IN. She married Roland Carr in 1882.
  10. Aaron was born 3 Feb 1865 in Howard County, IN, and died there 12 April 1893.

Jacob Crousore was born 22 April 1862 in Howard County, IN. He was married twice. By his first wife, Mary Bell, he had the following children:

  4. Robert Crousore was born 3 May 1899. He married Madelene ____ who was born in 1905 in Henry County, IN, and they had the following children:
    1. Robert Claude Crousore.

    5. Joan Crousore.
    6. Betty Lou Crousore.

Jacob Crousore and Rhoda Dougue
and their descendants


Jacob Crousore was born in about 1818 in Ohio. He married Rhoda Dougue who was born in Indiana but whose parents were both from North Carolina. Their children were:
  1. Nancy Ellen Crousore was born 21 Nov 1849 and died Dec 1921 in Greentown, Howard County, Indiana. She married Lewis Stephens who had previously been married to Nancy's cousin Lovina Crousore. Lewis and Nancy's children were:

    1. Andrew Stephens
    2. Dan Stephens
    3. Rhoda Stephens
    4. Mary Stephens
    5. Oran Stephens
    6. Minnie Ann Stephens
    7. Cora Stephens
    8. Lonnie Stephens
    9. Debbie Stephens

    Lewis Stephens was previously married to Nancy's cousin, Lovina Crousore, and had two children (Jacob and Hanna) with her.

  2. Jesse Stephens born about 1861 in Indiana.
  3. John Stephens born about 1866 in Indiana.

Nancy Ellen Crousore was born Nov. 21, 1849 and died Dec. 1921 in Greentown, Howard County, Indiana. She married Lewis Stephens

William Croussore and Mary Browning
and their descendants

William Croussore was born in May 1820 in Indiana. He married Mary Browning and had the following children:

  1. John W. Croussore was born about 1856
  2. Isaac Croussore was born about 1858
  3. Sarah Croussore was born about 1860
  4. Rhoda Croussore was born about 1864
  5. Charles Croussore was born about 1866
  6. George Croussore was born 28 September, 1868 in Indiana. Died 1947.
  7. Ida May Croussore was born 6 May 1872 in Kokomo, Indiana. She was married three times (as listed herein) and died in Springfield, Missouri in 1946. Ida Mae's first husband was Jefferson Davis Hardin (the brother of notorious Texas gunslinger, John Wesley Hardin) whom she married in October 1887 in Lipscomb County, Texas. To them were born the following children:
    1. John Wesley Davis (Hardin) was born 8 February 1889 in Gainesville, Texas. He married Hazel Marie ------ who was born Jan 25, 1896 in DeKalb, Indiana and died in 1978. They were married 30 January 1912 and had the following children:
      1. Edra Georgina Davis (1919-1991)
      2. Russel Manford Davis (1912- )
      3. Crystal Naomi Davis (1914- )
      4. Echo Marie Davis (1918- )
      5. Corita Erial Davis (1924- )
    2. Mattie Belle Davis (Hardin) was born 9 February 1891 in Walsenburg, Colorado. With her first husband, Albert Richard Slade, she had two children, and with her second husband, Albert Becker, she had eight more.
    3. Della Lillian Davis (Hardin) was born 14 December 1893 in Oklahoma Territory near Duncan. She married Everett Mathes. They had three sons.
    4. Mary Davis (Hardin) was born in 1894 and died as an infant.

    Ida Mae's second husband was Manford Inskeep who was born 2 May 1867 in Bloomfield, Iowa. They were married 29 January 1896 in La Junta, Colorado. The marriage ended in divorce after they had eight children.

    Ida Mae's third husband was John Elmer Fanning who was born 26 June 1881 and died in 1970. They were married in about 1930. They are buried in Springfield, Missouri.

William Croussore's second wife was named Lewis. In the 1900 he is listed as widowed and stepfather to Albert and Anna Lewis-Pugh.


Ida May Croussore with family, Kokomo Indiana, 1894This is Ida Mae Croussore who was born in Kokomo, Indiana, in 1872. She is pictured with her niece (name unknown), her son John Wesley Davis (Hardin) (born 8 Feb 1889) and daughters Mattie Belle (born 9 Feb 1891) and Della Lillian Davis (Hardin) (born 14 Dec 1893), products of her first marriage.

Ida May was married three times. She married J. D. Hardin, the brother of notorious gunslinger John Wesley Hardin, in Lipscomb County, Texas on 24 October 1887, Manford Inskeep (with whom she had more children) in La Junta, Colorado, and then John Elmer Fanning. She divorced the first two. She and Fanning are buried in Springfield, Missouri.

Her death certificate lists her parents as William Croussore of Indiana and Mary Browning of Ohio. Any further information on these folks would be appreciated.
