The Crousers in Ohio

Harmon R.Crouser and Martha J. Cameron
and their descendants

Harmon R. Crouser was born 26 March 1859 in Pennsylvania to Jacob Crouser and Emiline Burke Crouser. Various records have also referred to him as Herman and Hiram, but the family Bible and other family papers call him Harmon. He was married 29 June 1882 in New Castle, PA, to Martha J. Cameron who was born in PA on 3 June 1865. The family Bible lists his deathdate as 1917. Martha's obituary lists her death date as 6 Dec 1941 in Olena, OH. Their children were as follows.

  1. Clarence R. ("Doc") Crouser was born 10 Jul 1884 and died Dec 1944. He married Bertha McCracken.
  2. Ernest J. Crouser was born 25 Feb 1886 and died in Aug of 1970.
  3. Hazel Bell Crouser was born 8 Jul in 1888 or 89.
  4. Jesse L. Crouser was born 8 Oct 1891 and died in April 1960.
  5. Wallace Crouser was born 30 Jan 1895 and died 9 Dec 1968. He married Myrtle Nielsen.
  6. Gladys Crouser was born 4 May 1901 and died 4 May 1969 in a car/train accident. She married Cloice Files.

We have pictures of some of these folks but we don't know who is who. Can you help identify them?

W. S. Crouser and Haddie ______
and their descendants

W.S. Crouser was listed in Franklin County, Ohio in the 1900 or 1910 census index. He was 48 and was born in Illinois. Listed with him were Haddie (48, born in PA) and these children:

  1. Harold (19, born in PA)
  2. David (15, born in OH).


M. Crouser of Scioto County
and his descendants

M. Crouser is listed in Union TWP, Scioto County, OH in the 1850 census. He and his family are listed only by their initials. If you know their names, please let me know.

M. Crouser was a 48 year old farmer at the time of the census. His birthplace was listed as Germany, and his real estate holdings were worth 2500. His wife E. Crouser was also born in Germany. She was 42 years old.

Their children were all born in Ohio. Their first initials and ages were listed as follows:

  1. M. Crouser was an 18 year old male.
  2. __ Crouser was a sixteen year old female.
  3. S. Crouser was a 12 year old female.
  4. A. Crouser was a 10 year old male.
  5. C. Crouser was an 8 year old female.
  6. E. Crouser was a 5 year old female.
  7. M. Crouser was a 1 year old female.


    Elnathan Crouser and Mary Garver

    Elnathan Crouser was married 6 June 1848 in Miami County, OH, to Mary Garver.


    Pauline Crouser of Montgomery County

    Pauline Crouser, age 62, born in Germany, was living in Dayton, Montgomery County, OH, according to the 1900 or 1910 census index.


    John Crouser of Clinton County

    John Crouser gave consent for his daughter Margaret to marry John Michael in Clinton County, OH, The marriage occured 18 June 1820.(Source: "Gateway to the West" by Bowers and Short. pp 268 and 275.)


    Jacob Crouser of Meigs County

    Jacob Crouser is listed in the 1850 census for Colerain TWP, Meigs County, OH. There?


    Jacob Crouser and Rachel of Hamilton County

    Jacob Crouser is listed in the 1850 census (AIS) in Colerain TWP, Hamilton County, OH. He was born in Germany in 1812. His wife Rachel was born in Germany in 1815. Their children were

    1. Rocein(?) who was born in Germany in 1837
    2. Sofiah (1838, OH)
    3. William (1841, OH)
    4. Jacob (1843, OH)
    5. Henry (1847, OH).


    John Crouser and Nancy _____ of Meigs County
    and their descendants

    John Crouser is listed in the 1850 census of Satton, Meigs County, OH. He was born in 1804 in Virginia. His wife Nancy was born in 1810 in Ohio. Their children were

    1. Elizabeth (1830, OH)
    2. Minerva (1832, OH)
    3. Horace (1838, OH)
    4. and Albert (1841, OH).
