Cousar Dear Sir: In reply to your letter of inquiry regarding the Cousar family well say I know very little about our family history. As much as I know though will be glad to give you. I think it was about 1756 five brothers came from Ireland to S.C. and settled Lamcister (sic) district in Wax Haw in Wax How (sic) County. My grandfather was one of the 5 brothers. I think grandfathers name was John Cousar he only had three children {who lived to be grown 1 girl Sarash (sic) (it is not clear if the bracket commit was part of the orginial letter or added later)} 2 boys Richard and Thomas (my grandfather) Grandfather and Grandmother (she was a Wright) S.C. their 3 children came to Tipton County, Tennessee about 1840 seven years after grandfather died. My father married Leanah Moore. They came to Lafayette Co. Miss in 1852 they lived there until he died in Nov., 1902 at age 85 years there were eleven children all are dead now except Lee C. Cousar, Blue Mountains, Miss., I am 72 years of age." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1A THOMAS COUSAR m.
