MONEY SAVING TIPS
Raising Children can get quite expensive and to help keep those expenses down, I have put together several recipes for making the essentials needed to keep your kids busy and your sanity intact.
 

Puffy Paint 
 
You will need:
Flour
Salt
Water
Tempera Paint

 Mix equal amounts of flour, salt and water.
 Add liquid tempera paint for color. Pour
 mixture into squeeze bottles and paint.
 Mixture will harden in a puffy shape.

Kids Finger Paint

  You will need:
  1/2 C. cornstarch
  3 TBLS. sugar
  1/2 Tsp. salt
  2 C. cold water
  food coloring

  In  saucepan mix all of the
  ingredients together.

  Cook over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes until the
  mixture is smooth and thick. Stir while the mixture is
  cooking. After it has thickened, let it cool.
  Divide the mixture equally into air tight containers.
  (baby food jars work great)
  Add a little bit of food coloring to each container.
  Stir the coloring in first, then decide if you want to
  add some more.  Cover tightly to store!

 Play Dough
 
  You will need:
  2 C. of Flour.
  1 C. of Salt.
  4 Tsp. Cream of tartar
  2 Tsp. Oil
  2 C. Boiling Water
  A dash of your food coloring.

  Mix all the ingredients except the water.
  Knead the dough until all ingredients are well mixed.

 Nutty Butter Play Dough

 You will need:
 1 C. Peanut butter
 1 C. Powdered Milk
 1 C. Honey
 1 C. Oatmeal

 Mix together and play and/or eat.  If you
 want a variety of color... Use food coloring

 Silly Putty

 You will need:
 Equal parts cornstarch and Elmer's Glue and try
 adding a drop or two of food coloring for variety
 

Sidewalk Chalk

 You will need:
 2 C. Water
 2 C. Plaster of Paris
 2 Tbl Tempera Paint (Wet or Dry)
 Toilet Paper Tubes with duct tape over
 one end

 Combine and stir together. Let stand a few
 minutes. Place tubes on cookie sheet lined
 with foil or wax paper. Pour mixture into
 holders, let stand until semi firm. Remove
 holders and let dry completely - ready to
 use in about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. (reminder,
 never pour plaster down sink)

 Bubbles

 You will need:
 1 C. Warm Water
 1/4 C. Blue Dishwashing Liquid
 1 Tsp. Salt

  Slime

  You will need:
  1 Part Liquid starch
  2 Part Elmer's Glue
  Food Coloring (opt.)
  Mix well...
 

  Paper Paste

  You will need:
  1/3 C. non-self-rising wheat flour
  2 TBLS sugar
  1 C. water
  1/4 Tsp. oil of cinnamon
  Mix flour and sugar in a saucepan. Gradually add water, stirring
  vigorously to break up lumps.
  Cook over low heat until clear, stirring constantly.
  Remove from stove and add oil of cinnamon. Stir until well blended.
  Makes about 1 C.

 Spread paste with a brush or tongue depressor. This paste can be stored in a covered jar for several weeks without refrigeration.
 

 Play Clay

 You will need:
 1/2 C. salt
 1/2 C. hot water
 1/4 C. cold water
 1/2 C. cornstarch

 In a pan, mix salt and hot water and heat to boiling point. Stir cold water
 into cornstarch in a small bowl.
 Add cornstarch mixture to boiling water. Stir vigorously to break up the
 lumps. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is like stiff pie
 dough. Remove from heat and turn out onto a breadboard to cool. As
 soon as mixture is cool enough to handle knead until smooth and pliable.
 When dry, it is white and can be painted. To speed up drying time, bake on a cookie sheet at 200 degrees for one hour.
