PLAYTIME ACTIVITIES

PreSchoolers love just about anything that is messy... So I suggest that you put aside the broom and mop and get down and dirty.  A big sheet of cardboard, makes a great drop cloth.  If weather permits, take the activities outside.
Play dough is a great way for children to explore their creativity.  Don't be surprised if they don't seem to know what to do with it once it is placed in front of them.  You may want to sit down awhile and work beside them, but let them express themselves.  The first sessions may consist of just squishing the dough through fingers, slamming it down on the table, smashing it, cutting it, and just exploring how pliable it can be.  It is important not to push your child into making things, you may damage their sense of creativity.
Making Play Dough.  It can be an interesting and rewarding experience for a child to help make the dough and then play with it.  (Recipe for play dough)
How about Finger Painting.  Start with picking out a shirt that you no longer wear and designate it as your childs Art Shirt.  You can even paint the shirt.  Kids find this fun and they are more likely to wear something they designed themselves.  Make sure that you have a drop cloth or big sheet of paper/cardboard to put the easel or lay the paper flat on.  If you are home schooling preschool age children, like myself, I use it as a good time for free play or to work on the shape of the day.
Making Finger Paint is just as messy as doing it.  I don't say this to discourage you. On the contrary, I think making it is just as fun for the children.  They can make their own colors. (recipe for Finger Paint)
I have found that if you have left over paper sacks that you would get at like J.C.Penney's or something like that, it makes a great big sheet of finger paint paper.
One thing I like to do is burn off some of my kids energy... They can get pretty wound up and if you have to stay indoors because of weather then you may want to do some physically exhausting activities.
DANCING (The Hokey Pokey is my Favorite, But "If your happy and you know it" seems to be my son's)
I let my kids decide what they want to do instead of the traditional verses like clap your hands or stomp your feet.  My kids prefer 'turn around, fall down, big hugs and so forth'  It can get to be a long song.
