ANDREA FRANATOVICHAndrea
Franatovich listed on
naturlization that he came from
the gulf of Venice which is now
the Island of Korcula in Croatia.
was naturalized a Victorian
citizen in 1855, he had been
working as a Capatain and master
of the ship "THE JANE".
The Jane mostly travelled around
Australian waters.
His name we have found , have
been spelt on different documents
in many ways :
e.g.
Frankovich,Franktovitch,Frankovitch,
Franatowich, Franatovich,
Franotovich.
Andrea Franatovich left the ship
and went to Redcastle for
goldmining and he had one major
find that we know of where he
made the first discovery in
Redcastle Victoria of payable
gold.
According to the book "The
goldfields and Mineral Districts
of Victoria" first published
in
1869 and later re-published in
1979, Andrea Franatovich
discovered his gold in December
1859 and the golds vale was 100
pounds and the date he was paid
for this was some seven
years later on the 26/11/1863 and
the payment was made to
B.Danbank.
We are still trying to find out
why he paid this money straight
to Mr.B.Danbank.
