Bronx Memories
Shaul's parents, Joe and Lillian Ceder, on Stratford Avenue near E. 174 St., mid-1950s.
Shaul (Steven) in front of his first residence, 1201 Gilbert Place in Hunts Point, about age 3, ca. 1957.
GILBERT PLACE REVISITED
In the summer of 1996, our two eldest daughters, Nitza (then aged 12) and Chaya Baila (then 9) visited Shaul's parents in Far Rockaway. Among the excursions they took was a visit to the old homestead in Hunts Point. I think you will agree that some things are completely different while other things apparently never change.
Shaul's father, Joe Ceder, at Crames Square, Southern Blvd. by Bruckner Blvd. and Hunts Point Ave., mid-1950s.
Our old five-story apartment building at 1201 Gilbert Place, bombed out during the "Fort Apache" days, has long since been torn down and replaced by a single-story laundromat.

Hunts Point Avenue looking toward the Bruckner Expressway. The brownstones in the left foreground have been renovated.
Gilbert Place looking toward Faile Street. The houses on the left side and the apartment building in the background are more or less intact. I still remember the hydrant in the left foreground.
Hunts Point Avenue looking south toward Lafayette Avenue and the Coster Street fork. The building at the corner of Gilbert Place had been a luncheonette during my childhood.
