Emma delighted and excelled in gardening flowers and food, often winning ribbons at the Steele County Fair, Owatonna. She was an active volunteer in her church and community. Her photography provided early images of family and friends' events. She took car trips around the United States, often taking family and friends with her. She hosted family holiday dinners that became legendary in family stories. Her care of daughters Beverly and Joyce set precedent in home care of the handicapped.

Emma B. Williams, Owatonna, died Friday, July 16 at the Owatonna Health Care Center. She was 94. July 19, 1993 2:30 P.M. Emma Olp was born January 11, 1899, in Deerfield Township, Steele County, the daughter of Otto and Minnie (Zeise) Olp. She twas baptized on January 22, 1899 & confirmed on March 31, 1912. June 7, 1922, she married Fred R. Williams, in Owatonna (widowed at 44 yrs.)

Mrs. Williams was employed for a number of years at the canning company in Waseca. Following her employment there she was employed at the Owatonna Canning Company for many years, until her retirement in the early 60s. She was a lifelong resident of the Owatonna area and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. She was member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna, where she belonged to the Miriam Rebecca Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxilliary and the Barracks. Mrs. Williams was a gardener and had won many ribbons for her produce and plants at faIr competitions. She was preceded in death by her husband, on March 22, 1943, three children, two sisters and a great-grandchild.

She is survived by two sons, Harvey of New Rochelle, N.Y, Richard of Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters, Joyce D. and Beverly J. Williams, both of Owatonna; three sisters, Frieda (Mrs. Emil) Krupp, Edna Ballenthin, both of Faribault, Alvera (Mrs. Ted) Lustig of Owatonna; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Fred was born in Garrett, IN on 4-2-1893 and came to Minnesota from Indiana in 1915. He owned his construction company, building homes (including his own at 254 Plainview St. in Owatonna) and large projects such as bridges and roads. He is credited with building most of Owatonna's concrete roads. He was killed in a train-truck accident at North Cedar St., Owatonna, at the young age of 49 yrs. 11 mos. and 20 days. He is survived by wife, Emma and children, Harvey, Richard, Beverly, and Joyce Williams, all of Owatonna.
