Although I now live in North Carolina I decided to do a page on Arkansas,my home state.I love North Carolina, but we all know how important ours roots are to us.

I was born in Little Rock,Pulaski Co. on June 1st 1943 in the Baptist Hospital.Little Rock has grown a lot since then.It has over 350,000 people in Pulaski County, which is Little Rock and No.Little Rock.

The Arkansas River runs through the middle of Arkansas and separates L.R and N.L.R.There is always something going on around the river. On one 4th of July there was a fireworks display over the river. There were so many boats on the river with their running lights on and music playing. With the fireworks reflecting on the water and the lights from the boats,it was a beautiful sight to see and hear.

Around L.R and N.L.R there is loads of things to do and places to visit. In L.R there is our large zoo, with hundreds of animals. You can spend all day looking at the animals and maybe taking time for a picnic.Down the road from the zoo is War Memorial Staduim, where the Razorbacks play some of their football games. And just around the corner is an amusement park for the kiddies. We also have lots of museums for the art lovers and the OLd State House for the historians.

For the fisherman there is the whole river to fish on or along the banks. For the family outings there are lots of parks with picnicing areas. Many of these along the river. And on a hot day in Arkansas that breeze off the river feels wonderful. In N.L.R there is Burns Park,a very large place and also a amusement park for the kiddies. There are hundreds of picnic tables, under shady trees and the birds singing. You can let the kiddies run and play and not have to tie them down. This was one of my favorite places as a child. And when I had children, we spent almost every Sunday there. Some wonderful memories were made there.

Now we will head out of Little Rock on interstate 30 to Hot Springs. Here we will find the hot springs, for which the town is named.Plus horse racing, and lots of lakes. The Ouachita Mountains are near by.When you visit Hot Springs you must visit Bath House Row,this is where the hot springs are located.I have never been in the springs, but I have heard people say that it is a very relaxing experience.I was in Hot Spring on my honeymoon, but needless to say I didn't make it to the Springs.I have been to Hot Springs several times for the horse racing, but I never made any money.I am not a good horse picker. Also I don't like losing my money.

Leaving Hot Springs we will be taking highway 7,the scenic route through the Ouachita Mountains.A picnic lunch would be a good idea as there are so many beautiful places to stop and have a quiet break from driving.Just lean back and enjoy nature. After our lunch break we will be heading to Dardanelle, this little town is near the Arkansas River and once again lots of fishing can be done here and also at Lake Dardanelle.Spend a little time here talking to the locales and relaxing.

As we continue up highway 7 into the Ozark National Forest, please take your time here, relax and enjoy the beautiful country side you are visiting. These mountains are full of folk lore.Stop and talk to some of the older folks at the roadside stands and shops. You will learn so much about the legend of the Ozark Mountains. The people are very friendly and always ready to help anyway they can,but don't be in a hurry when visiting the Ozarks, because the people are very laid back and take life easy.

As a child, my family often went fishing and camping on the Buffalo River in the Ozarks, but being a child I didn't really appreciate the beauty of these mountains. Some day I will go back and take in all the beauty that these mountains have to offer.

Well folks this isn't a travel log, just some memories of my home state.I will give you some links so you can read more about my home state and maybe one day you will visit it.Just remember when you do visit be prepared to take life at a slow pace, caz that is life in Arkansas..Thank you for visiting my site and please do come back.
