Memorial Candle

[Done at the very beginning of the ceremony]

Many friends and family have contributed so much to your lives- not just the parents present. Perhaps you would like to take a moment to honor and remember someone who is important to you that has passed away. Taking a moment of thought and relection just before the beginning of your wedding ceremony can be done, either in word or by lighting a memorial candle.

I encourage couples who wish to honor loved ones who have passed on. Honoring loved ones, usually immediate family, can be done in a number of ways. If your wedding ceremony is being held indoors, you could place a photo of those to be honored in an appropriate, highly visible place, such as by the Unity Candle, or on the piano. .

A Memorial candle can be lit on behalf of the loved ones who have passed away and the ceremony paused in silence. Another idea is to have a rose placed on a front row pew or chair.

I like to include this reading:

Psalms 91:10

There shall no evil befall thee,
neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For He shall give His angels charge over thee,
to keep thee in all thy ways.
