CHFG Families: 2001 ReUnion Organizers

2001 Organizing Committee!

Myrtle Smith of Oklahoma City, OK was chairperson of the 2001 reunion. She and her sisters, Doris Butler, Patricia Gaither, and Eva Mars, along with other hard-working family members, were the powerballers behind the scenes of this affair held in Oklahoma City, OK.

Myrtle, Doris, Eva, and Pat are daughters of Charlie Mae Haynes, daughter of Evie (Goff) Haynes and Frank Haynes. Frank Haynes was brother of Carl or Coyle Haynes; Evie Goff was sister of Lucinda Goff. Here again, two sisters married two brothers, (see Haynes link) (see Goff Link). Photo at right shows Myrtle (seated left), mom Charlie Mae (seated right), Patricia (back left), Doris (middle), Eva (back right).

The first ever C-H-F-G ReUnion was held in San Antonio in 1999. We voted to hold a reunion every two years, mainly because of the older family members of our groups. Charlie Mae and her double-first-cousins, Devorah (Haynes) Lamar and Velva Lee Haynes are in their 80's, Aunt Elizabeth (Collins) Simmons is in her 80's, Cousin Almentra Goff is 95, and Cousin Porter Goff is 93-94?

Although there weren't as many people at this reunion as there were in San Antonio, we had a very good time. The reunion committee planned a leisure first night where we could mingle with each other, gather family information, pose for photographs, play card games, and eat way too much home cooking! The layout was nice and comfortable.

Our host hotel was the 'Ramada Inn' with plenty of free parking, located close to shopping centers, movie theaters, good fast-food restuarants, and churches to worship on Sunday morning. On Saturday, after we finished our free breakfast, we toured downtown Oklahoma City, including a stop at the memorial site of the Federal Building which was bombed on April 19, 1995. And on Saturday night we had a banquet of the best fried chicken and trimmings I've tasted since my after school job at 'Batson's Dining Room' in Amarillo, Texas.
