GONE FISHIN'
Dallas and Ft.Worth have many man made lakes (resouviors). They were not built for fishermen ... this is Texas and we needed water! Most of the lakes were clear cut and all obstructions were removed. The newer lakes adopted a more fish friendly policy by leaving the trees and only cutting trees to form boat lanes once the lake was at full level. The older lakes are devoid of cover. They are rock and mud. Out of the 8 area lakes only Lake Ray Roberts has the trees and cover that most fisherman look for.
I caught this nice Black Bass on a red shad colored worm.
Using a baitcasing reel and a Med/Heavy action rod.
Catching a Bass on a plastic worm can be come addictive.
It's been said that a worm fisherman is just a jerk waiting on another jerk.
This is my biggest catch.
I heard this fish feeding
on the other side of the
cove I was fishing in.
So I let the wind drift my
boat over to that side of
the cove. I caught her on
a "Boomer"crawdad colored
crankbait.
Nomally I practice "catch and release".
But after my wife started asking me...
"Why do you go fishing? You never bring
any home" I brought her these to cook.
Beleave it or not. I do catch something other than Bass.
These big ol' crappie would not leave my Bass lures alone.
So I switched to Mepps spinners and between my dad
and I we caught a stringer full.
We were on Lake Waco...I can't tell you exactly where ...
its a secret !
Kids love to fish. But they hate fishing equipment !
At least I think they hate fishing gear. My kids have
thrown brand new rods and reels into the deepest
part of the lake. They have broken the tip off my
favorite fishing rods and have lanched brand new lures
hundreds of feet out into the lake after tieing one of
those "kid knots".

I buy my boys Zebco Rod/reels.
The Zebco 33 reel is a good
choice for kids.
