On the fourth day of our visit, we took a bus trip to Stonehenge and Bath. This first picture of Stonehenge has a very eerie quality. As the picture was taken, a tourist, with the hood up on their coat, walked into the picture. It appears as if a Druid is walking through the ruins.
Bath is a beautiful, old city. It was popular during the Roman occupation of England because of the warm springs. After the Romans left, the area became forgotten. Then it experienced a rebirth. It has been built of white limestone and has followed the architect's original plans. No variations may be made in the downtown area when renovations need to be done. Each building is five stories tall, but the first story is underground and the fifth story is disguised. While building this new Bath, ruins of an ancient Roman bath house were discovered.
It was very interesting walking through the ruins and seeing how much attention was paid to this idea of bathing and relaxing. It was a social and professional part of the influencial Roman's day.
On the plaza, outside the entrance to the baths, was a beautiful cathedral.
