I,m glad you stopped
into my birding page.

I love Backyard Birdwatching
as much as I do gardening!

Actually ,I feel that they
go hand in hand.

"A garden without birds,
is like a garden without flowers."

(Author unknown)

My love for the birds
came from my Grandmother
whom gave me my first
birdfeeder for my garden.
I never actually watched the birds
that came to the feeder back then,
I just kept filling the feeder
when it was empty.

Then , my son Jeff
made me a birdhouse in school.

I hung it up near the birdfeeder.
One morning a few weeks later,
my daughter and I heard
birds singing outside .
We went to look,
and there at the birdhouse
we saw two Chickadees
building a nest inside of it!

My friend Laurel
pointed out to me
the many different
variety of birds
I would get if I use
Blackoil sunflower seeds.
Boy, was she right!
I now get all different
kinds of Songbirds!
Then , she gave me a birding field guide
to keep track of the birds that visit .

Well,that's when it all began.
Since then, I've come
a long way!

In my gardens I now plant many
plants to attract the birds.
I have collections of birdfeeders,
birdhouses, birdbaths, etc, ....

I live in New England,
and some of the birds that visit me are
Chicadees(my daughters favorite),
Goldfinches,PurpleFinches ,
and House finches, Nuthatches,
Red Cardinals ,Titmouses,
Woodpeckers,Evening Grosbeaks ,
and Redbreasted Grosbeaks,
Juncos in the winter, Blue Jays,
Mourning Doves, and ofcourse
their cousin Pigeon,
and a couple of squirells
that think they are birds(lol).

Hummingbirds are attacted to my Herb Garden
full of beebalm
and a nectar feeder.
They also love the dayliles ,
morning glories,and petunias
in the flower gardens.

I also started to get
Northern Orioles
once I set out oranges,
a Oriole nectar feeder,
and Oriole suet(they dont eat seed).

It's such a joy to watch
them all.

~ Take The Time ~

Take the time to hear the sound

Of a flower spring from the ground

Take the time to hear wind blow

Can you hear the falling snow

Did you hear a sound today

Or did you let it slip away

Ignoring miracles of all life

The sound of beauty and nature's light

Capture all these splendid things

That life and love and nature brings

Then your heart will truly sing

When you can hear a bird take wing.
