To Jason at Fifteen Months | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This fragile, sturdy life began a dot And grew until it could not be contained, And being born it struggled and it fought Until it could no longer be restrained. |

Jason is the eldest of our three children - all boys. When he was born, both grandmothers, who had been waiting in the hospital waiting room, decided he was superior to the other babies in the hosptial nursery as soon as they saw him. Jason has always demanded detailed answers to all questions, begining at an early age. For instance, at age 5, when asking the typical questions about sex differences that children always ask, he wasn't satisfied with the answer until I explained that hormones, triggered by specialized parts of the brain, were released into the blood stream, travelling around the body to cause changes as people mature. He remains analytical to this day, enjoying the challenges of higher mathematics, logic and philosophy. |

And now he chases friction cars and cats (The latter - neither tail nor paw secure.) He sweeps the floor with plastic balls and bats, And where he'll turn up next, we're never sure. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
He jabbers in a language all his own And quite a dozen words or more we know. Before we're ready he will be full grown, But 'til our tiny gentleman must go, He's mama's little Englishman a while, Disguised behind an impish, baby smile. |

Philosophy Found I watched You unfurl the perennial Petals of philosophy. Each new wisdom Discovered by the hour Until you budded With simple Truth. I smiled As your eyes sparked With the first blush Of your crusade To share the fresh pink blossom While it bloomed With vibrant Youth. I know That petals wilt with age Turn brown And one by one They drop from the flower Drift down To the compost From which springs In time The well nourished rose Of experience. |
