I am interested in finding family for one Elaine Machado. There is some family living in the Azores now but it is very limited. Most of the family moved to Canada, Toronto, Hamilton, Mississauga, oakville, Ontario, plus they are in the USA. Your site is great. So full of interesting and needy info. I loved your Family Tree. I note on #15, Your 4th gr. grandfather is Francisco de Andrade. I have a 2nd gr. grandfather with that name. He was born in Viseu, Portugal. I can't seem to deciph r his freguesia, which looks like Sao Paleao, area of Cortidos, Viseu, Portugal. I think the church was standing in 1812 when he married, but I can't locate it on the map. Can anybody shed light on this mystery? Keep us the good work and thanks for a gr at site. Anne

Just when I hit the brick wall I found you. Great site, one other guest mentioned seeing sample letters,I think this would be great too. My road block is finding information on the Portuguese from Madeira to British Guiana South America, ther doesn't see to be too much of this movement,any suggestions? Searching for D'Abreu from Funchal, Madeira, I am also trying desperately to get addresses of Catholic Churches in Funchal, any help in this regard too. I will return. Cheers, Paula

Loved the family history. Maybe it takes a special kind of person to explore the world. After quite a search I have found the name of my great grandmother who came to California from Portugal at age 18, married (I think), had 6 children, traveled to Bos on with 2 daughters whom she left at the Home for Destitute Catholic Children, was herself admitted to Westborough State Hospital and then deported back to Portugal due to mental illness. My grandmother suffered dementia and died at Maine's Augusta Menta Hospital. My mother's memory isn't too hot, either. Thanks for sharing your history.

I am also trying to trace my parents family which are of Portugues decent and have come across the same problem with one advantage I speak some Portuguese (alittle broken) but I can get by. You did a really good job and helped me start it. I went out and purchased the FAMILY TREE program and I have to say that it came as a great help. I advise anyone trying to start their family research to go out and get it. Your phrase dictionary really helped me. Their is also a program out on Portuguese translations. What I need to find out is if it is accurate, which I am in the process of doin that. Good luck in your search!
