Joseph Thompson Gist and Minnie Alice Lauver began their family after settling 140 acres of land in Enid, Oklahoma Territory during the Cherokee Strip Land Rush in 1893.  Minnie, having been an accomplished court reporter, stayed at home to raise her children.  Joseph went on to not only farm but also become an attorney.  He owned the Gist Music Company store as well as J.T. Gist Feed and Coal in Enid.  Minnie passed away shortly after these photos were taken.  The entire family was very musical  and made up the very popular Gist Family Band of Enid.
