Thomas  and Rebecca  Gist

Thomas Gist was born in 1829 in Boonville, Missouri.  Son of Hiram (Guess) Gist and Sarah Martin Gist, he married Rebecca Jackson Thompson Gist.  Thomas, Rebecca, and children moved from Missouri to Lecompton, Kansas in 1856.  Thomas served in the 12th Kansas Infantry, Company B, from 1862 to 1865.  They settled on land near Morrill, Kansas, in Brown County in 1871.  In 1876, they moved to Manhattan, Kansas where they lived  out the remainder of their lives. Rebecca was daughter of James and May Jackson Thompson of Guernsey County, Ohio.  She was born also in 1829.
