If you have never read Lucy Maud Montgomery's famous books, you are missing out on some very special people. I have created this page so that you can meet Anne, and all of her friends too! I've added pictures of the movie actors too so you can imagine what they look like!
Anne Shirley is a young orphan who has been moving from place to place ever since she was born. Nobody has ever wanted her! So, imagine her surprise when Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert decide to keep her, even though she isn't the young, strong boy they had planned on adopting! Anne is a spunky red-head full of imagination! She "thrills" at just about every lovely thing, finds names for all the beautiful places and things in Avonlea, and uses her imagination to dream up all sorts of things!
Marilla Cuthbert is the lady of Green Gables, where she lives with her brother, Matthew. Stern and old-fashioned, Marilla takes it upon herself to raise Anne into a sensible young woman. Although Marilla does not condone all of Anne's imaginings, such as Anne's desire to be called "Cordelia," they develop a very special relationship.
Matthew Cuthbert is the shyest and meekest man in town. He finds it simply torturous to even have to talk to a woman! However, Anne has a way of getting into Matthew's heart, and she knows right away that he is a kindred spirit! He grows to love her so much that he is willing to (gulp!) go to the town store and buy material to make her a dress!
Just across the way lives Diana Barry. Anne decides they are destined to be "bosom friends." In a sacred ceremony, they pledge an eternal friendship to one another and become lifelong chums.
Then, there is Gilbert Blythe, the handsomest boy in the Avonlea school. He likes Anne as soon as he sees her, and tries desperately to get her attention. However, when Gilbert torments Anne by calling her "carrots," Anne smashes her slate over his head and vows to never speak to or about him again!
