Receives Highway Commissioner Certification

 

 

Dave Risinger, Groveland Township, Tazewell County, Township Highway Commissioner achieved his voluntary certification on June 18 at the Vespasian Warner Public Library in Clinton. This voluntary certification program was sponsored by the Township Highway Commissioners of Illinois.

Twenty-three Township Highway Commissioners from Piatt, McLean, Macoupin, Vermilion, Tazewell, Macon, Logan, Sangamon, DeWitt, Moultrie, Greene, Woodford,and Iroquois counties attended the session. The certification program covered duties and responsibilities of the Township Highway Commissioner position and how the requirements of the office are determined. Areas of interest included budgeting, tax levies, personnel issues, equipment purchases and maintenance, relationships with other elected officials and legal issues affecting the office.

Greg Carter from Bloomington, IL was the instructor for the program. In addition to attending the seminar, each Commissioner was required to complete written tests on each area of the Commissioner’s responsibility. This session was one of a statewide series of seminars sponsored by the Township Highway Commissioners of Illinois organization to better equip the Highway Commissioners to serve their elective office.
