The Alfred H. Darden Family

Alfred H. Darden (Durdin, Dearden, etc.), my great, great grandfather, was born in 1809 in North Carolina. He moved to Fayette Co., TN by 1850 when he appears in the census, but may have been there as early as Sept, 1844 when he buys 100 acres from Moses Summer. He later sells this land in Aug. 1846 to Granville P. Stone. By November of 1850, when the U.S. Census was taken in Fayette Co., Tennessee, Alfred was living with a 24 year old female named Frances, b NC, who is the oldest female in the household. Also living with them was Anne E. age 1, born NC, and a 14 year old male named David McDaniel also born in NC. His son, my great grandfather, James Henry Darden was born in Tennessee on September 9,1851. James died in 1891 at the young age of 39 from tuberculosis leaving a young wife and three daughters under 11 years of age. A look at the Alfred H. Darden family in the 1860 U. S. Census of Fayette Co., TN, reveals the following: A. H. 50, Francis 31, James 5, A. H. 20, Armur 11, William Goodwin 21. In July 1869, Alfred married Elizabeth Goodwin. Was she related to the William living in his household in 1860? On April 3, 1884 Alfred married Mary Moore, born 11/6/1829 and died 2/23/1894.

According to Anna's death certificate filled out by her daughter, Verna, Anna was born in TN and her mother was Aliza Lee (perhaps an error as A. H.'s second wife was Eliza Goodwin).

The A. H. Darden who was 20 years old (presumably Alfred H. Darden, Jr.) in the 1860 census, disapprears after that census.
