We met in Junior High School... AZ was in 7th grade and I was in 8th... I used to watch him play football with his buddies at lunch recess, and I always thought about how cute he was... especially in his band uniform. I only talked to him a couple times though, I guess I was a little shy back then. I watched him all year, and then the dreaded day came... I graduated and went on to High School.

Our paths didn't cross again until he was in 10th grade and I was in 11th. We were in an English class together, and he was so sweet. We became instant best friends. Part of the instant connection may have been because as a rather busty young woman, it was very uncommon to have anyone look me in the face. One day he told me I had beautiful eyes... and he was actually looking at my EYES!!! There was also the fact that I could talk to him about anything, and spent a lot of time crying on his shoulder about all his friends that I had crushes on.... his reply was always the same: "Well, remember, there's always me." I'd give him a little kiss and remind him that we were too good of friends to risk a relationship that would just end up with us hating each other. I mean... isn't that the way it always ended... hating eachother?? I loved him too much to risk it...

So time went on and we remained best of friends. We never really "dated," but we went out a lot.... to breakfast, shopping, and almost every weekend we took our brothers to the movies. AZ had an old '73 El Camino, and our brothers would fall asleep in the back in no time, so we'd have a little fun... *WEG* We continued this "non dating" for a couple of years, then in November of '84 I moved out of my parent's home and rented a room from a lady with a really big house. AZ came over one night to help me hang some speakers, and do other "manly" things. We decided we liked doing this kind of thing together, as well as everything else. It was the night before Thanksgiving, and he asked me to marry him.... my reply?? a simple "OK."

After six months of planning and waiting the day was finally there... the day I had dreamed of my whole life... our WEDDING DAY!!! May 11, 1985. It should have been a dream day, but all was not right with us. I had failed to get the music, so I called him nice and early in the morning and told him he'd have to go and pick it up. When he got to the music store they were all out of the wedding march... in English anyway... and so I walked down the aisle to Here Comes the Bride sung in German!! it was so funny. The amazing thing was that I walked down the aisle at all because I called him that morning (yes, another call) and told him that I couldn't get married because he had my favorite comb, and I COULDN'T get married without using THAT specific comb!! He refused to bring it to me, so I told him the wedding was off... but my dear sweet mother talked sense into me and convinced me that another comb would do and so we got married at 2:00 that afternoon in front of 250 of our best friends and family members.
