CONGREGATIONAL NARRATIVE PROFILE

Name of the Church: St. Andrew's Gairloch, Nova Scotia

Community: Gairloch, is a farming community 10 minutes outside of Westville and 25 minutes outside of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. We are nestled among the hills of Nova Scotia with breathtaking views just seconds away from the church. We are about 30 minutes from Nova's Scotia's best beach, an hour outside of historic Antigonish which harbours Xavier University. We are also about an hour and a half from Halifax. If you are looking for a charge that is out of the mass time constraints of a large city, yet is accessible to shopping conveniences we are the perfect setting. We are a very friendly community, and help out whenever a neighbour is in trouble. When you are out visiting, you needn't worry about eating dinner! Those you visit will fill you with more than enough great food and a warm cup of tea.

Goals and Objectives:

Our goals include finding a minister who will lead us into the millennium. We enjoy good Biblical preaching in various styles, and even appreciate new hymns! We really love to worship God whether in our homes or in our church. Since a great deal of our members are unable to get out to worship visitation is a priority for us. Our membership has the best stories tellers of anyone in the charge, and maybe in the County! We still need to be a relevant ministry for our God, which we try to do in our limited scope because of mobility issues. If the minster were to go out and do some old fashioned leg work, there are people in the area who do not attend church anywhere.

Organizations:

Atlantic Mission Society meets once a month.

Denominational Involvement:

When ever we can we attend the various special services throughout the Presbytery. As one of the points in this charge, we always support the other two in whatever events are planned.

Administration and Stewardship of Financial Resources:

The Board of Managers administrates our financial resources.

Property:

Our church is a well maintained building. Our church hall has a good size kitchen, and we worship inside the hall during the winter months. Our church has the old high pulpit and seats 1200 people, although it is in need of some repair work. Since our roof is over 25 years old, we anticipate the costs of a new roof in the future. Last year, we had the steeple repaired. The manse which is located in Hopewell, needs to have work done within it, if you are to live in it. At the present we have it rented out, and the people living there are stripping the hard wood floors and revarnishing them. It is a beautiful manse, which needs to be updated, with beautiful original wainscoting throughout. We have a manse fund to refurbish the necessary repairs.
