I'm from Newry, County Down in the north of Ireland. I've just been trolling looking for references to my surname and came upon your site. It looks great and it's interesting to see how far the Irish roots have been flung. I'm interested in my own genealo y but as my father died over 20 years ago, information on his predecessors is scant. But I'll keep looking. Best Regards PACI

Why hello Mike McGuinness! This is Mike McGuinness! My name is Michael L. McGuinness, and I am from the bunch from Michigan - a very extensive bunch, I might add. My greatgrandparents had about 7 children, and they in turn had a large number of kids. My g andparents had 15 kids, and they had about 40 children altogether. I am 16 years old, and am a sophomore at Walled Lake Central High School in Walled Lake, Michigan. My fater is Louis C. McGuinness. His parents are Pauline(Curtis)- a Kansas implant :)- an David Bek McGuinness. David's parents were Petronella (Bek) and John Parnell McGuinness (she was Dutch). Our McGuinness branch arrived in America a tad bit before the potato famine (its heyday). They took the line as far as it would go (from Ellis Island they took the Erie Canal, and then they took the road from Detroit until where it ended, Dexter, Michigan Over the decades we have dispersed ourselves about the state and elsewhere (Oklahoma, DC, Connecticut, North Carolina, etc.)and our numbers are quite large. I'm glad I found this site, and I'm actually suprised I did not see my Aunt Patricia's name on the guestbook. Patricia DuLong -married- is THE Genealogist in our family.

I am an Englishman currently working in S.Carolina Home town in England is Plymouth (the original one). Have traced back to g.grandfather John McGinnes who family lore says was born a Macinnes. He joined British Navy in 1856, said he was 17 and born in Dundee Scotland. He had eight children, three of hi sons left England 1880-ish, never to be heard from again. They might have come to USA.

I'm beginning to research my family history. What I've been told by my late grandfather and my great uncle are the same. Two McGinnis brothers arrived from Ireland in the carolinas as indentured servants(not sure of the time frame). They allegedly kill d thier "owner" and moved inland. One eventually settled in Al, the other in KY. The Al brother's descedent moved to east Texas (Quitman area) toward the end of the civil war. That man was my great-great grandfather. My grandfather moved to MI during he late twenties where I was later born and raised. Ever heard anything like this? I'm looking for validation or disproof. I'm also looking for names, of course.
