Introduction...

I started my entire family tree research in June 1995 - quite as to why I started it I don't really know - but I have enjoyed the time since uncovering and re-discovering distant relatives and their photographs and stories. I have been carefully recording these stories, names and dates and I have also been spending hours restoring the photographs to their former glory with the help of several computer programs. Included throughout 'The Family Tree' site are examples of my restored photos - with their tears and general dirt airbrushed out.

Parts of my family have been living in Cambridgeshire, England since at least the mid-1500's and have inhabited the villages around the Isle Of Ely ever since. Only a few names have come from other counties such as Middlesex, Bedfordshire and Lincolnshire. Several of the names in my ancestry are of foreign origins such as Switzerland, France and Germany but most of them have been residing in the county of Cambridgeshire for as long as anyone can remember and as far as my research has taken me.

I must thank my family, friends, the staff of the Cambridgeshire and Suffolk Records Offices, all those who I have contacted through the Internet (in particular Genuki and Ely On-Line) and Compuserve's Roots forum, 'Family History Monthly' magazine, The Cross Family History Society, The Littleport Society and the Newman Name Society for being so patient, helpful and supportive through this on-going research of mine.
