Letter received from Nina Ruth Higdon March 01, 1997 Dear Don It was good to receive the information. Much more than I have--one line about each. Brings back good memories. Because of the Depression and moving for work I never actually knew many of the descendants of Tom Sasser-60 years since I have seen some and almost 50 years since I lived in McAllen. Without close examination, the chart appears accurate. I shall send a few notes to make a story line for you. I visited in the Homes of Tom, Jim, and Melissa Sasser until I was about 13. We had big family gatherings at one house and all came by to eat and talk. I asked Jessie, and Elsie about your mother, but neither knew her or the name. They went to school in Luther and Elsie kept in touch as her in-laws were there. My parents moved Harlingen in 1926 and to El PASO in 1969. In my childhood Alma and Neal Homer visited us about twice a year. Neal's step-mother was my mother's aunt. She spent a week or 2 each year with us. When Bertha and Joe moved to Weslaco, they came often. I was married and gone. Aunt Melissa spent the winter in Weslaco. She helped as cashier for Glen Adams in his cafe in Weslaco. Ola ·Greever’s son, Jack, attended the church where we did. I taught SS for the age he was. The music program was the best in town so I think that is why he was there. He was talented and smart. He had a beautiful little sister. About 1927/28 Neal bought some raffle tickets and won a car for one and a car for the other. Laurance taught school and got in trouble for paddling a mean kid-then he or Albert had trouble because a kid was forced to wash his dirty feet before he could come in class. Albert and his wife took care of Aunt Melissa in her last years. She had no children. She and Lawrance Lay lived across the street from the College at Edmond. He taught there and she rented rooms to girl students. They divorced and she married his brother Bate, who had an egg farm near Harrah, Ok. My mother died Jan. 1, 1997. She was 97 and alert until 18 mo. ago. She could have given you some good stories. I had her tape her life-she tells about going from Yellville Ark to Highlandville Mo. to be near Henry Sasser. Later they(she) moved to Okls. Her parents visited Mo. before they moved I have 2 cards her grandparents sent her. Catherine Sasser 'a grandfather lived to be lO5 who ???. Tom Srasser farmhad unusual events were held when was opened. One man carried a bale of cotton on his back all the length. His support men found a rest stop in Luther and put the bale in Tom’s shed or barn. Tom's sons tested late that night -it was not heavy My mom knew some of the Humfleets-and spoke of all of Rev. Henry's brothers and sisters. In her long life she spanned a big gap of generations. I wanted to go to Branson for the music. She told of coming there in 1908 ??) from Highlandville Mo. Had to change trains-walked from one to another for about 6 blocks-all of town-had to carry a satchel for her mom. Said I would not like it at all-Ha Ha Ruth Vaughan Sarah Alma Morrow was born August 28, 1901 in Bruno Marion Co., Arkansas, and died May 17, 1964 in Luther OK Co., OK..
