Andrew married Mary Frances Dobbs April 08, 1880, daughter of William Dobbs and Elizabeth Casteel.

Andrew Jackson Sasser Passes.

The death of A. J. Sasser of Gold Creek occurred at his home Wednesday, January 2, at the age of 74 years, one month and thirteen days. He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Mary Frances Sasser, two daughters Lillie Mae Branch of Arkansas, and Mary E. Williams, Arizona, and seven sons, being William Henry Sasser, Andrew Jackson Sasser,JR., and Leslie Orrin Sasser, of Oklahoma, Benjamin Aden Sasser and John Birda. of Arkansas, Shelby Columbas of Port Townsend, and Earenst Cecil Sasser of Gold Creek.

Grave side services were held at Winthrop cemetery January 3, at 1:30 P.M.with Rev. McNees in charge of the service.

I, Earl Wayne Sasser, was born in Clinton, Oklahoma March 19, 1939 where Old Highway 66 made the left hand turn going to California. I was born in a house one block down and one block over from that famous corner in Clinton.
My father's middle name was Earl so I was given Earl as a first name. My mother's matinee idol, Wayne Morris serve as my second name. Thank God Mom didn't fancy horror movies with the likes of Boris Karloff or Bela Lugosi. Our family left Oklahoma when I was about three years of age. There are only three thing I truly remember about Clinton and that was a birthday party of either my sisters or mine, not to sure who's party it was. The killing of a mad rabid dog by some men in town after the dog terrorize us children in an alley and getting on the train that took us to California. My Father worked at Swifts Creamery and my Grandfather worked at the cotton seed mill there in Clinton. Roosevelt's call in January 1942 in response to
the attack on Pearl Harbor had everyone talking about going to the big cities to join the War effort. My Grandfather and father didn't escape the call, the call that may have been spirited on by my Uncle Gene being drafted into the Army. The summer of '42 found My Mom, two sisters and I traveling west to meet my Grandfather, Grandmother and my Dad in California.

My father got a job at an oil company. His job was to pick up the old used oil from gas stations, trucking companies and bus depots which they used on board ships to make smoke screens at sea to simulate being hit or to just
cause general confusion at sea during battles. My Grandfather and Grandmother worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company making rubber gas tanks for airplanes. If you had a business the government would re-tool
your business to make something that would help with the war effort.

Even as children we were ask to make an effort to help by bringing to school a dime to buy a stamp to place in our U.S. Bonds book. When the books were filled with stamps we would then have a U.S. Saving Bond. In our kindergarten class the wall chart would show each child and the number of stamps saved towards the War Bond. The children from affluent families were
able to meet there goals more quickly for they were able to bring quarters to school towards the War Bonds. We lived on Manchester Boulevard right next to the elevated Red Car crossing. One day the police and many military vehicles closed off the
street forcing all cars to the curb. Down the street at a decent rate on speed came this very long truck and trailer completely covered with a tarpaulin. What turned out to be the tail section of an early jet caught the elevated track and pulled the jet plane off the truck and onto Manchester Boulevard. One of our Countries top secret projects was no longer secret.

Years later we moved to what was the suburbs. We moved to Huntington Park both my grandparents and my family. We went to school there and that was all part of the Las Angeles School District. In the late 50's early 60's I was a member of the U.S. Army were I trained both on the West coast at Fort Ord in California and the East coast at Fort Eustis in Virginia. At Fort Eustis and Sikorsky Aircraft I was trained as a helicopter mechanic. I was soon attached to the 31st Transportation
Company, a company the Government had earmarked to do Pentomic Warfare testing at the Nevada test site. The theory being to use small Nuclear bombs and then sweep in and secure the area. A Nuclear device would go off and we would fly in and remove a rotor blade, transmission, or engine and replace one that worked perfectly well with another just out of the box.
Atomic soldiers is what they now call us.

After I left the Army I started to work for 18 month for Los Angeles Airways a helicopter service in and around the Los Angeles area. It was a company that was 100% financed by the Government. If a passenger paid $23.00 to fly to Disney land the government would chip in another $23.00. Los Angeles, New York, and some place in Europe helicopters were found to
be an un-paying business. I took a job with Pacific Telephone, later to be called Pacific Bell, as a telephone repairman.

I was with Pacific Telephone two years when I married Margaret Philomena Carolan (Phyllis) from Drogheda, Co. Louth, Ireland. She was a Registered Nurse working at the same hospital as my Mother. Mom decided to bring Phyllis home for dinner one evening and that is how we met. Due to a full church calendar the dates available for us were October 31 or some time after the New Year. We got married on October 31, 1964. Susan, my sister's girl 8 years of age said just after the wedding, "Uncle Earl and Aunt Phyllis you guy are so lucky, you can go Trick-or- Treating tonight because
you already have your costumes on." I told her that it was a great idea. However, we had made other travel arrangements.

In October of this year we will have been married 33 years. We have three children, four grandchildren and one more on the way. Our two sons both work for an Orange County newspaper. One is a truck driver the other is head of the outside sales department. Our daughter is Controller at an offices supply manufacture. After our daughter, the youngest of our three children, graduated from college I retired. I retired in December of 1990 and we spend most of our time these day traveling when we are not taking care of the grandchildren.
