Q: HOW DO YOU PLAN A TOUR?
A: When a council schedules a program in a given area, I contact those people who have expressed an interest (within a fifty mile radius of the first scheduled program). When another program is scheduled, I fan out from there and so on. I also enter posts on WAGGGS-L to open the tour up for others in the area. Another way is when I know I am going to be in an area (for personal reasons), then I contact people who have made inquiries and follow the same procedure as noted above.
NOTE: If you are an employee of your Council office (even if it is only part-time), then you must have their approval prior to arranging a program! If you are a volunteer, however, then this procedure is unnecessary, but I would feel better if they knew that I was being invited to the area.
Q: HOW BIG A GROUP IS NEEDED TO PLAN A PROGRAM?
A: The group sizes have varied from 35 to 1200 (divided into three groups). The average size is from 100/150 people.
Q: HOW OLD SHOULD THE SCOUTS BE?
A: The ages have ranged from Daisy Scouts to Alumni Scouts. One program had five year olds and an eighty-seven year young Alumni Scout. For the younger Scouts, I would recommend earlier programs. (e.g. - 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.)
