George Dement II

George Dement II

Born about 1670 in Maryland

Died about 1729

Charles Co., Md.

Married first to widow, Jemima Capshaw.

Francis Capshaw is mentioned in "Maryland Deponents 1634-1799". "Francis Capshaw, (Charles County) servant to Alexander Smith, in 1674 judged to be 15 years old." A few years later he married a Jemima Unknown. He died about 1694 and his widow is then found in court records for Charles Co.

Apparently a William Marshaumn had worked for Francis Capshaw and was to be paid 900 pounds of tobacco for 45 days work. He was suing the widow for the tobacco. The charges were dropped, but these papers tell us about our ancestor.

The charges were filed against George Dement, Jr. and Jemima, his wife. These papers also tell us that George Dement married the widow, Jemima 18 Oct 1696.

There does not seem to be a date for when Jemima died, but in 1712, George was married to Mary Timothy.

" 20 April 1712, Indenture between George Diamond of Charles County, planter and Mary his wife and William Goady, land called Miles End, 100 acres formerly belonging to John Brooks for 1500 pounds of tobacco in casques to be paid by said William Goady and for Putney being parcels of land granted unto William Thymothy, the father of aforesaid Mary Dyamond who is the eldest daughter and coheiress of the said William Thymothy…….
