Hawaii Trip

What can we say about our 3rd trip to Hawaii (courtesy Synopsys)? Simply great! This time we went to the island of Kauai (ka-Wa-ee). This is the smallest of the four large Hawaiian Island and the most beautiful. Jurassic park was shot mostly on the island (remember the opening sequence of waterfalls and mountain ridges of Na Pali coast?). We spent 5 days on the island at Hyatt Regency resort. Since Kauai is the smallest of island and 70% of the land is inaccessible to cars (only mode of motion for me!), 5 days were more than enough for us. We decided to relax and see only a few good nature spots accessible to cars (like the Waimea Canyon, aptly named the Grand Canyon of Pacific and some beaches. Rest days we took off for snorkeling something both me and Sanju love to do. For those who don't know snorkeling, it is where you wear a breathing mask, lie flat (and motionless, the motionless part is probably what got me into snorkeling in the first place!) on water and watch fish as they swim past you. Unlike Maui and Oahu, Kauai doesn't have very safe beaches or lagoons (bay) for snorkeling but we did find some interesting variety of fish. This was rainy season in Kauai and some of the spots like Mount Waieleale are called wettest spot on earth since nearly 400 inches of rain is dumped there every year. Fortunately for 3 days weather was gorgeous but we did see a great rainbow at least a couple of time (it rains only in interior of island whereas other places it's still sunny making sighting of rainbow a regular phenomenon). In fact on our flight into Kauai we saw 2 full concentric rainbows for the first time. Most unfortunately we didn't have either our camcorder or camera to take a snap (of course taking picture from a plane going at 500mph would have been difficult anyway). As usual we didn't feel like coming back from Hawaii, but like all other good things this trip had to end. We have got quite a lot of pictures from the trip.
