Henry Champion settled in Saybrook, Connecticut as early as 1647, thirteen years before the first town records were kept. He participated in the hardships of pioneer life, which he shared with his wife Sarah, to whom he married in August, 1647, by the Reverend Mr. Sylvester Nash of Saybrook. There have been no records to date in which give a surname to Sarah. Henry owned several partials of land in Saybrook.

About 1670 he removed to Lyme, Connecticut, where he was one of the first and most active founders. He built his house on the hill east of the old meeting house, near the old burring ground. He was made a freeman of Lyme on May 12, 1670. In 1671, he was involved in a land dispute between the town of Lyme and New London.

After the death of his first wife, Sarah, he married Deborah Palmer Jones on March 21 ,1697. When he married Deborah she insisted on a prenuptial agreement, which was of financial gain to her. Henry died on February 17, 1708/09 in Lyme. He was 98 years old. In the September after his death, a disagreement between heirs and Deborah, regarding the distribution of his estate was, entered into the courts and the original copy has been preserved in Lyme.

It is uncertain from where Balthazar DeWolf came from. The name is either Dutch or German. He wrote as an Englishman, which in all probability meant that he was well educated. All his children had English names and they married in rather prominent English Families.

Balthazear is first recorded in the Hartford court records in 1656. While in Wethersfield he was arrested for smoking in the street. The court fined him.... and as tradition has it ... he paid his fine, lit his pipe and left.

He owned a large tract of land in Lyme and Saybrook, CT. In 1668 he and his three sons Edward, Simon, and Stephen were members of a training band in Lyme. Around this time an indictment was made to a certain Nicolas Jennings for witchcraft in causing the death of Regnold Marlin's wife and a child of Balthazar DeWolf. He was elected as a Town Committeeman. He apparently owned Calves Island in the Connecticut River of Lyme in the mid 1600's.
