John Huntley was born Abt. 1624 in the British Isles, Scotland, and died November 16,1676 in Lyme, New London, CT. He married (1) Jane. She was born 1625, and died 1669. He married (2) Sarah. She died 1650 in Boston, Suffolk, MA. He married (3) Mary Barnes, June 1, 1669 in Lyme, New London, CT.

  1. Moses Huntley, b. July 1, 1652 in Boston, Suffolk, MA; d. 1729 in Lyme, New London, CT.

  2. Aaron Huntley, b. April 16, 1656 in Boston, Suffolk, MA; d. May 24, 1745 in Lyme, New London, CT.

  3. Elizabeth Huntley, b. 1656; d. December 3, 1660 in Roxbury, MA.

Children of John and Mary are:

  1. Sarah Huntley

  2. Alice Huntley, she m. Beriah Dayton.

John Huntley originally settled in Boston, two years later he moved to Roxbury, and several years later he moved to Lyme Colony in Connecticut. His first wife, Sarah, died of small pox ca. 1650. John's second wife, Jane, died in Lyme, CT about 1669. He married, after 1669, a third wife, Mary (Hand) Barnes, divorced wife of Charles Barnes, who had abandoned her and returned to England. As the story is told, John was caught with Mary and was fined 10 pounds, which was a lot of money in those days, apparently John did the noble thing and married her.

John, apparently had a brother; William Huntley of St. Phillips Parish, Barbados, who owned a cotton plantation and had two slaves.

Aaron Hutley (John) was born April 16,1656 in Boston, Suffolk, MA, and died May 24, 1745 in Lyme, New London, CT. He married Mary Champion February 22, 1675/76 in Lyme, New London, CT, daughter of Henry Champion and Sarah. She as born 1651 in Saybrook, New London, CT, and died December 10, 1732 in Lyme New London, CT.

  1. John Huntley, b. November 24, 1677 in Lyme, New London, CT; d. April 10, 1750 in Lyme, New London, CT.

  2. Elizabeth Huntley, b. March 16, 1678/79. She m. Matthew Beckwith.

  3. Aaron Huntley, b. December 1, 1680 in Lyme, New London, CT; d. September 26, 1748 in Lyme, New London, CT.

  4. Daniel Huntley, b. May 25, 1684/85 in Lyme New London, CT; d. January 14, 1731/32 in Lyme, New London, CT.

  5. Mary Huntley, b. February 14, 1684/85 in Lyme, New London, Ct; d. September 5, 1768. She m. John Brockway.

  6. Jane Huntley, b. September 10, 1686.

 

Aaron Huntley, along with others from Lyme, served in King Phillip's War and was given one soldier's right, (Cedar Swamp Lot No. 50) in the town of Voluntown, CT which he sold for 8 pounds to John Lathrop of Norwich in 1716. He lived his whole life in Lyme and inherited the bulk of his parents property, he distributed to his brothers and sisters their portions in money.

He married Deborah DeWolf on July 27, 1707 in Lyme New London, CT, daughter of Stephen DeWolf and Hannah Jones. She was born July 25, 1690 in Lyme, New London, Ct. and died Bet. 1733-1785.

Nathan Huntley was one of the original settlers of Marlow, NH, arriving about 1767 and building the first house in that year on Marlow Hill where he had a large estate. His 100 acre lot, laid out on the Marlow and Lempster town line remained in the family for 180 years, being sold in 1947.

Nathan Huntley and Eber Lewis were the first selectmen of Marlow.

The Mack family is credited with being the first family to live in Marlow, they operatd a grist mill which was probably the first in town.

Solomon Gee operated a saw mill in Marlow. It is reported that once when going to his mill in winter with teams for lumber, he became thirsty and going to the brook he crawled to a place where a hole appeared. Suddenly, the ice gave way sending him into the water, he was rescued, though chilled, boys were sent to the corner for a jug of rum and were to take it to the Beebe place by the time he got there. The medicine was curative.
