Robert Miller was born Bet. 1652- 1655, probably in England, and died May 14, 1711 in Nihantic, New London, CT. He married Elizabeth 1678 in New London, CT. She died August 18, 1713 in Lyme, New London, CT.

Robert's will stated he had five children, double portions to Robert. Single portions to the other four. Henry and Sarah chose their mother, Elizabeth, as guardian.

August 1713 in Lyme, New London, CT, daughter of Roger Alger ane Elizabeth Innes.

The early life of Nicodemus Miller is as vague as any other man of that time period. Records of Lyme, CT show he owned land there. The last purchase he made there was in 1756. Records also show that he had sold all of his land holdings there, some of which was sold along with Hannah Bates, sister of Patience Bates his first wife. He was a member of the Lyme Militia and had attained the rank of Captain.

In 1764 a group of men from Lyme were granted a charter from Benning Wentwoth, the governor of New Hampshire, to establish a new town. This town was eventually named Marlow. Nicodemus joined this group and purchased land there in 1667. Soon after, he moved his family from Lyme to this new frontier town in the wilderness. His name first appears in Marlow at a meeting of the proprietors in the home of Joseph Tubbs on January 15, 1768, when he was chosen as moderator.

The evidence of when and where the first store in Marlow was kept is indesputible since the day book that contained the charges for rum and molasses, became the original layout book of the proprietors. This book became the property of Nicodemus. His log house was the 1st in town on the road from "Fay" corner to Bakers Corner. His stock in trade was rum and molasses, which was probably kept in some small cupboard.

 

Nicodemus Miller died June 14, 1781 in Marlow, NH and is buried along side his wife, Phebe Huntley, at Baker's Corner, Old West Cemetary.

In 1777,Lemuel Miller, was in Col. Bellow's unit, Cpt. Floods Co.answering the call to reinforce the garrison at Ticonderoga during the Revolutioary War. He is shown in Marlow as owning a farm there and in 1778 records show him selling land along with his mother, Phebe, apparent heirs of Nicodemus.

Lemuel Miller and Mary Beckwith are both buried at Baker's Corner, Old West Cemetary.
