1908 Public Square




A scene in the Public Square of Marietta, Cobb Co., Georgia when cotton was king. This was pictured circa the fall of 1908. Cotton was selling for five to six cents per pound and the average small farmer grew from five to eight bales. The scene is from the south side of the square looking east. Note that the courthouse with the clock at the junction of Park Square and Washington Avenue. This picture would have been taken from near the junction ot Whitlock Avenue and the Park Square on the west side. (Picture is the courtesy of Cox Printing Co.)
