The Names is "Witmer" or" Witwer" confusing.
Jacob Stauffer
b abt 1740 d Nov 1820 md Elizabeth Witmet daughter of Michael Witwer.
ch Elizabeth b abt 1768
Catherine b 30 Oct 1771
Barbara md Francis Buckwalter
Anna md Joseph Ebersole
Mary b 2 Feb 1777
Judith b md Henry Wilhelm
Jacob b abt 1785
David b 18 Mar 1788
Is this the right family? I ask because the book I have to look through
does not have an index.
Abigail

Did this family live in Montgomery Co., PA?

Abigail

As far as the dates go, I believe this is the correct family. For
Catherine born 1771, I have her married to Michael Wenger Weaver, as per
the WENGER BOOK, 1978 edited by Sam Wenger. For Anna, I have *Susanna*
married to Samuel Bauman. For David born 1788, I have him married to Anna
Burkholder Weaver, all of these lines belonging to my husband. Now I have
them living in Lancaster County, PA. My husband's ancestors are primarily
all from Lancaster County. It is father Jacob Stauffer, for whom I am
trying to determine the correct parentage. R.W. Davis has one connection
to Mathias Stauffer and Anna Oberholtzer. Amos K. Stauffer (our local
genealogist) has him connected differently however.

As for the Witmer/Witwer, I thought they might be the same also, but I
spoke with Daniel Wenger, who has the Wenger Family Project online and who
is writing a new Wenger Book. He shared with me that the Witmer and
Witwer lines are different, but I would like to check that out. So far
with my husband's lines I have discovered that Weber and Weaver are the
same, as Weber means weaver in English. Horst and Hurst I have also found
are the same. One of my husband's lines spelled theirs Hurst because of a
teacher in school! Then there is Stauffer and Stover. :-)
I see that you have Trekking your Stover Cousins home page! I just looked
at that the other day - I have been looking for pages to link having to do
with my husband's lines.

Hi there! My name is Daniel Stover and I reside in Clarksville, TN.
I was brousing the internet, looking for some family history and just
happened to come by your page. You should really submit it to more
searchbots like WebCrawler, Yahoo, Alta Vista, etc. I must compliment
you on your Webpage, it has to be the most information I have found on
Stover geneology ever!

I am originally from Tampa, Florida. My father, Donald was born in
Fairfax, Virginia in 1937. My grandfather Herbert A. Stover was born in
Beckley, West Viriginia in 1903?. I have been brousing the internet and
found a Stover/Stober from Germany and then I found Jacob Stover from
Switzerland. How would I know where to start? Any information you can
give me would be helpful.

I was just viewing your webpage! It's terrific! I have just recently
found out that I've a way back grandma Stover. Catherine Stover b. 1816
GA m. Elijah Lackey in Lumpkin Co., GA in 1838. They lived in Habersham
and then White Co., GA. I believe her father was Jacob Stover b. abt
1874 in VA and m. to Sarah ? and Rebecca ?. I think this because I find
them living on pg. 282 of the 1850 Habersham census and the Lackey's are
living on pg. 281 of the same census. Do you have my Catherine in your
family? I would love to hear from you.>BR? Cheryl

I enjoyed your webpage. The music was a particularly enjoyable bonus to
the good information. I did not see any Chastain names listed, but
maybe you have come across Chastains in your Georgia research. I
recently learned that Nancy Chastain, in the 1850 and 1860 censuses for
Gilmer and Pickens County, Georgia, married a George Stover. Nancy died
in Walker Co. Alabama in 1908. I'm also looking for information on her
parents: James Chastain and Jane A. Powell, married in 1846 Gordon Co.,
Georgia. I thought perhaps some Stover researcher might have found
information which could help me. At least it was fun checking out your
website. Ron Chastain, Salem, Oregon.

Georgia. She was the daughter of Jacob Obediah and Jane Baxter.
Sometime after this they were in Jackson County, Alabama and in the early
1900's Susan was in Arkansas. Eventually she came back to Tenn where the appreciated and I am more than willing to share what I have if it would help you.

Lucy STOVER
Years ago my Grandmother, Frances CLAY, told me Lucy STOVER was the wife of Robert "Cuddy" ACORD (b. 1802, Monroe Co.,WVA). This has proven not to be the case, as he was married to Nancy GORE. At some other point in time Granny Frances CLAY told my cousin that Lucy STOVER was married to a different ACORD, but that proved not to be the case, either. I sure would like to know just who Lucy STOVER may have been, and what connection she had with the ACORD family.

I have been told that my family is Swiss-German - Stover - that the first

Stover to come to US via Va name was Jacob Stauffer in about 1760. I have
family record that show that some of my relatives were Dunkard Baptist and
I understand that to be a branch of the Mennoitte Church who were from
Switzerland. Is it possible to confirm this info?
Thanks.

VSTAR14@aol.com

Looking for (without any luck) to find my gr. gr. grandfather's father.
My gr gr grandfather Andrew Stover was born approx. 1844/1843.

I found a Jacob Stover living in Preble County, Twin Township, OH
(where Andrew lived most of his life) and listed in the 1850
Census with Jacob was an Andrew N. Stover age of 6. Listed before
Jacob was a Gotlieb Hutzinger from Germany.

On the 1860 census, Jacob still in Preble County, Twin Township (Andrew
is now listed as 15), same Township and Gotlieb Hutzinger from Germany is stil
l listed just before him.

On the 1870 census Jacob from Preble County is not listed. Andrew is listed
as living in Lanier Township now married with children.

On the 1880 census, Andrew is living in Preble County, in TWIN Township
with his family. A Lucy Stover is listed just before Andrew.
Listed just before Lucy Stover is a GOTLIEB HUTZINGER from Germany.
Possibly in 1880, Andrew moved to his father's land (On the census was a Gotlieb
Hutzinger from Germany listed) If my therory is correct, I should check the 1870
census for Hutzinger to see who is listed after him on the census!

On an 1890 Tax List Jacob Stover in Twin Township is listed.
Based on the census information I estimate Jacob's birth at or about 1800/1801. On the 1870 and 1880 census, he is not listed (possibly Jacob had died).

A Jacob is listed on a Tax List, could there be another Jacob in Twin Township?
