My great grandmother was Caroline ZEIGLER sometimes SIGLER. She was born 26 June 1857 in Tets Des Mortes Tshp, Jackson Co. Iowa. She had brothers Solomon Shomo, Otis and David. Their father was David ZEIGLER born in Penn 1818 (1850 census) His wife was Anna, a native of Switzerland born 1828. He died about 1858. The 1860 census list Anna SIGLER married to Jacob Kraus within the year. It also list the Zeigler children living with them. I have found some information on the son Solomon Shomo but nothing on Otis or the younger David. Any information or help will be appreciated. Just can't seem to make a connection with any of the Zeigler families out there. One problem may be that the used various spellings of the name at different times. My grand mother on her marriage certificate gives her mothers name as Siegler and she spells it Zigler on her 2nd marriage application. The 1850 census gives it as Zeigler.Richard Brenton, cranbrook,BC

7/6/1999I am Edward W. Zeigler, III. I realize that the spelling has changed through the years; however, I am sure that this is the same family. I was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, January 20, 1948. I have information regarding the family in Louisiana. My part of the family is descended from a slave owner Zeigler and a slave woman who had a daughter namedHattie (my great-great-grandmother) who married one of the slaves that carried the name of Zeigler. From that union came my great-grandfather,George. Then my grandfather Edward. Sr. - my father, Edward, II. I presume that the spelling of the name was misunderstood during the time of slavery. They had a son named Horst Ziegler, that was born December 14, 1941. Johann was a photographer and I would guess he is in his seventies or eighties, if living. Johann and Marie were divorced and Horst was brought to the United States by his mother and stepfather when he was about seven years old. He believes he had an older sister that is deceased. Marie has now passed away, but she refused to talk about Johann. I am Horst's wife and he asked for my help in finding his father. If you know anything about this Ziegler, we would appreciate any information Willie&Horst Lohr
