The Crossman Society... is particularly interested in English lines and the medieval history of the surname Crossman. Information prior to 1600 is very scarce (and so were Crossmans). What we have found to date is here.

The goal of The Crossman Society is:

  • to bring together individuals and groups of people who collect family data about all references, branches, spellings and occurrences of the surname Crossman.
  • to extract all entries of the surname Crossman and its variations from available censuses.
  • to extract all entries of Crossman and its variations from the IGI, Family Search, the Old Parochial Register Index and other compilations of genealogical information.
  • to extract indexed references to Crossmans and its variations in the English Record Office in London.
  • to extract all references to Crossmans and its variations in old English texts and listings.
  • to promote genealogical research, specifically Crossman along with its variations, and to assist researchers.

In England, there were relatively few Crossmans before 1700.   Information is minimal but fairly sufficient to establish genealogies worthy of further study. Between 1995 and 1998, a study was made to determine how many Crossmans were living in England from 1500 to 1699, and how they were related. Crossmans have been located in concentration in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Suffolk, and London. Devon is by far the most populated with Crossman folk -- Devon holds more entries than all other counties combined.

Included in The Crossman Society database are compilations from census', cemetery records, county indexes, English poll taxes, Cornwall Parish Registers, Bishop's Transcripts, Diocese of Exeter's Transcripts, Herald's Visitation, Visitation of Cornwall, History of Deanery of Trigg Minor, History of Trigg Minor, Cornwall County Records, and the standard: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' IGI and Family Search, and much, much more.

The Crossman Society is endeavoring to record Crossman history a piece at a time. If you would like to participate, contact us at  The Crossman Society. We always accept Crossman information and genealogies as additions to our database.
