Here's a letter from the pastor in the Newsletter:

"Lord, I don't know the first thing about prayer." My heart was breaking. There wasn't anything I could do. Only God could turn this situation around. But what if He didn't? I pleaded with him to do what only He could do. In that moment, God got me to a place where it wasn't about any clever words I could say, it wasn't about anything i could do, but the only thing I could do was pray. I was desparate, depending solely on God. And, in that moment, I learned the first thing about prayer.

God is depending on us to depend on Him. I have said that from the pulpit so many times. But I learned it for myself in that moment. I don't want to ever forget it. When thouse words gushed out of my heart, I was surprised to hear myself saying them. I didn't know the first thing about prayer? But, as I sat there, I knew I had never said anything that was more true. As a pastor, I have always emphasized prayer. I preach on it, I practice it, I believe in it. I believe prayer is so important in my life, and in the life of the church. But prayer can easily become just so many words. Words chosen carefully. But these were not words chosen carefully. These were words straight from the heart. And that's the way God wants to pray. He wants us to pray out of a heart that is desprate, breaking, depending only on Him. He wants us to pray like we know he cares and we know He is listening. He wants us to pray like we belong to Him, like we believe in Him. He is waiting to hear us pray like that.

He is watching to see us live like that. God is depending on us to depend on Him. This is not just the first thing about prayer, it's the first thing about living by faith. As we depend on Him, through His mercy, He gives us a ministry. (2 Corinthians 4:1) As we depend on Him, He renews us inwardly, day by day. (2 Corinthians 4:16) As we depend on Him, He teaches us the first thing about prayer. (Luke 18:1) It's not about what we can do. It's about praying to Him, looking toward Him, leaning on Him, being stretched toward Him, depending on Him.

"Lord, I don't know the first thing about prayer." I was sitting on a bench outside the cabin we were staying in at Falls Creek. Two of us were there, our hearts breaking for a teenage girl who was struggling with surrending her life to Jesus Christ as Lord. About forty-five minutes later, we were sitting on a bench inside the cabin, listening to her give her life to Christ. I will never forget that moment. But I don't want to ever forget the first moment. The moment of desperation. The moment when I heard myself saying, "Lord, I don't know the first thing about prayer."

God is depending on us to depend on Him. Does God have us in a place where it's not about what we can do, but we are driven to pray? That's the best place for us to be. God is waiting to hear us pray like that. He is watching to see us live like that.

I want to live like that. I want to pray like that. I want to see our church grow, like that. Depending on God, God doing what only he can do, and He gets the glory. First things first, Bro. Danny
