The Road to Salvation

Have you reached a place where you know for sure that if you died today, you would go to Heaven?

Suppose you were standing before God right now and He asked, "Why should I let you into My heaven?" What would you say?

If you could not answer these questions with absolute assurance of where you will spend eternity, please allow me to share the following verses with you.

Romans 5:8 - But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

God loves us so much and desires a relationship with us to such an extent that He sent His own son to earth to die for us.

Romans 3:10, 23 - As it is written. There is none righteous, no, not one: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

We are all sinners, by nature and by choice. There is nothing a person can do to achieve eternal life in Heaven. Our best works fall far short of what is acceptable to God for salvation. We cannot save ourselves.

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Since we are all sinners, we deserve death. This death is a spiritual death, spending eternity separated from the love of God. There is a special place for this, it is called Hell. Wages are something we earn, so our payment for our sins is Hell. But the Good News is that God has provided for the forgiveness of our sins. It is a free gift, eternal Life. Something we don't deserve, but because God loves us, He provided a way to escape this punishment for our sins.

Romans 5:6-8 - For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

It has been said that the greatest expression of love is to sacrifice yourself to save a friend. How far greater reaching is God's love, for Jesus Christ died for everyone, even the ones who take His name in vain and with their every strength, fight against God and His will.

Romans 10:9-10, 13 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

This is to trust totally in Jesus. We must surrender to Jesus as Lord. This is not just saying we give our lives to Jesus. It means giving Jesus control of our lives.

Romans 8:37-39 - Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This is your assurance that once you are saved, truly accepting Jesus Christ as Savior and allowing Him to direct your life, that Jesus has paid the price for your sins on the cross, and you have eternal life.
