Fun at the Lake
July 20, 1996, Lake Bonaparte -- Bradley had to leave early, so we allowed him to water-ski. No one else would because it was about twenty below! He went on the board, did lots of impressive moves, then did the same on the skis. Bradley thought the girls on the rocks were too comfortable, so he gave them a nice shower.
Then Uncle Paul got brave and took a quick turn around the lake. And lo and behold, the sun came out!!
Dick and Bradley went skiing double. They did such a good job that a family of ducks even swam by to check things out! Bradley must have been distracted by the ducks because he went down. But, troopers that they are, they got together again and off they went.
After a break to visit the fish pond (chronicled elsewhere in this newsletter), it was back to the water sports. Trust me, anyone who went in the water was a sport!!
Amber tried the tube and seemed to bounce, bounce along! But, Amber froze to death and so she was laid out in the boat to thaw.
Someone else could take her place! It’s Michelle and she is going for a nice slow ride around the lake! Oh, no, Amber thawed out and she’s back on the tube, getting the ride of her life!
Dwayne skied and didn’t fall this year -- our hero!
A great time was had by the beach bums of the McAdam "clam." We certainly have to vote those who attended "die hards."
Alas! Gloria, Chip, and family arrived! The story is that Chip went to Radio Shack and forgot the time. Well, I bet Gloria fell for that! I would be checking this story out!
But we all had a good chat. We also had a good time with a bottle of nuts and screws. What can I say -- it doesn’t take much to entertain some people!
Our very own magic-castle-in-the-sky (and on the sand) builders went to work to see who could build the best and brightest castle of them all! And the winners are:
Most original -- Amber, Jessica, and Michelle
Most peepholes -- Tory and Kristie
Best located and most well defended -- Michael, Jake, and Trevor
Clumpiest castle -- Uncle Joe
Jacob cast out, patiently waits for a bite and hooks a fluorescent bass.
Brianne immediately hooked "a diving something," she said.
Michelle had quite a struggle with a fish that almost hit Tory.
Christie jigged up some diving sticks.
Jessica cast out over the plastic and hooked a funky beach safe.
Courtney, an enthusiastic fisherperson, got herself a put-together jet plane.
Jonathon got himself a put-together jet, also.
Little Samantha cast out and reeled in a beautiful ring toss. The pole was bent right over and for a minute we thought we might lose it!
Josh, who was properly attired in a life vest, reeled in some diving sticks.
Clayton cast out in the deep grass behind the brown plastic tent and pulled up some diving sticks.
Little Robert reluctantly parted with his trucks to cast out a line with a little help with Aunt Laura. He had his catch part way in but lost it! Fortunately, fish were really biting and just a moment later, he had another big one -- a nice ring toss set.
Brooke also cast out, but selected a smaller rock pile and got a nice beach pail.
Amber talked in a whopper of a notebook which appeared to be just about two pounds -- one of the heavier catches of the day.
Latecomer D. J. reeled in a bucket and shovel without even casting his rod!
Everyone seemed to have fun, especially event organizers Aunt Laura McAdam and Darlene McAdam.
The solitary non-fun participant was Elaine McAdam, who was drafted to witness the event and take notes.
The Olympics it wasn’t, but no one has more fun than the McAdam family in their annual canoe races!
And the winners are:
Race #1
First (because Aunt Norma pushed them the farthest!) -- Chad, Jacob, and Trevor
First for the loudest yelling -- Christy and Tory
First in paddling backwards -- Josh and Michelle
First in dumping -- Kenny and Clayton
This first race was total confusion! Bradley though he won! Michelle forgot how to paddle! Clayton and Kenny dumped, but good! On to the next race!
Race #2
First -- Jessica and Shannon (Aunt Norma pushed again!)
Longest canoe -- Brianne, Carrie, Courtney, and Katie (Laura and Grandma scuba dived under the canoe and pushed them!)
Prettiest girls in the canoe -- Shannon and Jessica
First for dumping -- Uncle Joe
Dick and Bradley are first place in all of our hearts for supervising this chaos we call canoe races!
