WELCOME TO SUGAR CRANE STABLES!!

This page is devoted to my collection of Breyer model horses. I have been collecting model horses since I was five years old and my first breyer was the Will James' SMOKEY the cowhorse. He still resides in my herd today and has since been busy greeting the other members of my ever growing collection. You can view the list of models presently in my possession here--my want list is included here! I will post a small list of models to sell, but for the most part, I buy to keep, and rarely sell. My collection numbers well below many other fellow hobbiests (I've seen them number as few as 50 and as much as 10,000!--that's a lot of horses!) at 350, and my collection contains mostly older models. I tend to overlook a lot of new models (Huckleberry Bey and Big Ben being the exceptions!).

Since many of the same molds are used repeatedly and only the colors change, I am more inclined to persue models seldom represented and colors infrequently used. For example, as a fan of the Smokey The Cowhorse mold, when he appeared in two colors in 1997, I lept at the chance to add both to my collection. Since that was the first time the mold was made available since he had retired in 1985, there was no doubt where they belonged. That year two lucky winners were chosen from a coloring contest. One was portrayed from January-May (buckskin) and the other ran from June-December (brown paint).

Over the years, I met and talked with some fellow hobbyists that have grown tired of collecting and have dispursed. Then some years later, they're bitten by the collecting bug and take it up once again. Like most collectors, I started buying fast, then gradually slowed down. In any given year, numbers of models bought ranged anywhere from 20-45. But now that I take my time and browse lists, looking for models I particularly want, I am much more careful. The annual figure, if I'm lucky comes to five models a year. I've decided that I want quality, not quantity in my collection. This was, the thrill of the hunt and the finding of that bargain are sure to keep my interest going for a long time. People continue to say "oh, you'll get tired of it. We did." But I continue to answer, "We shall see". :)
