Meet Our Family

Hello and welcome. We are a Catholic homeschooling family from Ohio and are staunchly pro life. My name is Sue. Ned and I are proud parents of six children: Ana, Allison, Emma, Elena, Oliver and Oscar.
Homeschool Resources
I am a work-at-home-mom and homeschool Ana, Allison, Emma and Elena using Catholic curriculum recommended by Laura Berquist in her book entitled 'Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum'. This is our fifth year of homeschooling. So far, we love it! I strongly recommend joining a local Catholic homeschool support group. They are an invaluable source of inspiration and comfort, especially when homeschooling feels overwhelming at times. Click on the schoolhouse above for useful homeschooling links on the web.
I also belong to the Cathmoms List. It is a moderated list consisting of orthodox Catholic mothers from around the world who are loyal to the Magisterium and to Pope John Paul II. Click on Catholic Mothers Internet Connection to find directions on how to join this truly Faith inspiring group.
Among the various family activities in which we participate, tent camping is one of our favorites. Of course, the campsites we choose must have good bath facilities. This is about as close as our family will go at 'roughing it'. We have camped in two county parks and our favorite campsite is at Miami Whitewater. Have you ever camped in the rain? It actually is a lot of fun. Camping in the spring and fall is the best time. Summer is too hot and the mosquitoes are pretty bad. We've never camped in the winter but I heard that it isn't that bad. One just has to bundle up. Hmmmm...I guess we'll have to try that this year.
Another activity we enjoy is vegetable gardening. This year we are planning to grow a big crop of Ichiban eggplants, Sweet One Million tomatoes, and Lisbon green onions. Our plan is to sell them to a local fresh produce store. In the past, we've also raised roma tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapenos, zucchini, and horseradish. We've experimented with brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, and radishes and have decided not to do them ever again. They required too much work and lots of real estate, of which we don't have much.

Chemical pesticides are frowned upon in our gardens, be it vegetable or flower. We raise everything organically and use beneficial insects like ladybugs and praying mantises to ward off those nasty pests. The worst pest that we have to deal with are the Colorado potato beetles. They attack eggplants with a vengeance if left alone and ruin a good crop in about 2-3 days time!
