the VALLEY of  BROKEN  PIECES
          by  Carol  Mehaffey

My spirit was high, my life a song
My heart was proud, my will was strong.
Then one day came the Voice of Jesus
And I saw a valley of broken pieces.

As an eagle I soared, untouched and high,
I'd rather have stayed up there in the sky,
but quietly called the Voice of Jesus:
"Come to the Valley of Broken Pieces."

Down I swooped, and was filled with awe
at the beautiful, fearful things I saw!
Yet comes the comforting words of Jesus;
"I'm here, in the Valley of Broken Pieces."

"My children are bound, and must be freed!
You must be broken, to meet their need."
"But I'm afraid!!"  I cried to Jesus,
Who beckoned yet, midst the broken pieces.

Brokenness is the best gift I give.
I ask you to die, that others may live.
It's your choice," challenged the Voice of Jesus,
"Rest in the Valley of Broken Pieces."

"Lo, I AM with you, have no fear.
I'll teach you to love, and bring others cheer.
Forgiveness is yours,"  assured my Jesus,
"Only in the Valley of Broken Pieces."

I went to the Valley, and saw the "I".
I saw the Pride which had to die.
I found new freedom - release - in Jesus,
Through many, separate, broken pieces.

Instead of sorrow, joy is mine!
Instead of anger, peace Divine.
Instead of loneliness, I have Jesus;
And wholeness now, instead of pieces!

Once I thought "I" could do it all.
Now at my Saviour's feet I fall.
I'm just a vessel, to be filled with Jesus,
Which He created  - from broken pieces.

Yes, I was broken, so I might be healed.
When self was strong, Christ was concealed.
Now thru me shines the Light of Jesus,
Oh!  Blessed Valley of Broken Pieces!
