Nestled
in the foothills of the Berkshires, Rural Shades Farm is an 18th century
farmstead using heritage breeds of livestock and plants in a mixture of
traditional and modern farming techniques to create a sustainable balance of
agriculture and forestry.
We strive to breed for high quality Shetland Sheep and Jacob Sheep using the best breeding stock we can find.
The wool products we produce are made from fleeces that are processed in traditional ways using no bleaches, dyes or other harsh chemical treatments.
Our Rare Threads line of knitwear is hand-knitted or frame-knitted from these materials using only the natural colors available from our sheep.
Our Oberhasli Goats produce the milk which is the basis for our pure and hand-made Three Sisters Soaps.
And, finally, Williamsburg Gardens is our Rural Shades, Virginia based offering of heritage plants, bulbs and shrubs that we have collected and cultivated for over 25 years.
