"Go Rest High On The Mountain"

On behalf of all my brothers and sisters, I am dedicating this homepage in the Memory of our father,Robert (Bob) M. Oparka, 9 Aug 31 to 25 Aug 95.
Keeping in contact with all of us was important to our father. So I know, if he was still with us, he too would be surfing the net or have an email program so he could write to each of us on a daily basis.
Since I am dedicating my homepage in the memory of my father, I feel it would be incomplete if I did not include a link to a page I know my father would enjoy. My father loved motorcycles and owned a Harley Davidson until the day he passed away.

My dads Harley Davidson, "1969 ElectraGlide"

My father was an Air Force Retiree with 20 years and had just Retired from the State of California 11 months prior to his death. He did get to enjoy some of his hobbys before his death. If he wasn't fishing on his boat, or riding his motorcycle (toy) he was traveling cross country.
The summer of his death he came here to Texas to visit my family and then off to Ohio to visit my sister and her family, with a stop in Illinios to visit his brothers and mother. He did take a break before going off to Neveda to go camping with my youngest sister and her family and then into California to visit with the rest of the kids.
We all took the lose of our father hard. Some of us were closer to him than others. I had always been close to my dad but grew even closer when we lost our step-mother in Apr 94. Since he took her death really hard, and we all live in different states, several of us would call him either every day or every other day to make sure he was doing alright. In a way you can say it was our turn to take care of him. No matter where we were or what any of us had done or decided to do, if we needed help in any way, he was always there for us. As the saying goes "Family takes care of Family".
Since my father was familiar with what I do, go through at work and the lanuage/terminology used, I would purge (get things of my chest) while talking to him, not realizing that is what I was doing until he was gone. I know with us calling him, it helped him get through the rough times but at the same time he was helping me. I still, till this day, miss talking to him.

POEM "IF I HAD ONLY KNOWN"
The poem is intended to remind you that not to take people around you for granted: parents, friends, lovers. Cherish the time you can spend with them.

If I Had Only Known
If I had only known it was our last walk in the rain
I'd keep you out for hours in the storm
I would hold your hand, like a lifeline to my heart
And underneath the thunder we'd be warm
If I had only known it was our last walk in the rain
If I had only known I would never hear your voice again
I'd memorize each thing you ever said
And on these lonely nights, I could think of them once more
And keep your words alive inside my head
If I had only known I'd never hear your voice again
You were the treasure in my heart
You were the one who always stood beside me
So unaware, I foolishly believed that you would always be there
But then there came a day when I closed my eyes
And you slipped away
If I had only known it was my last night by your side
I'd pray a miracle would stop the dawn
And when you smiled at me, I would look into your eyes
And make sure you know my love for you goes on and on
If I had only known, If I had only known....
THE LOVE I WOULD HAVE SHOWN
If I had only known........
