OUR TRIALS:
"WHEN HURTING DOESN'T STOP"

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. Periodically, we all find ourselves face-to-face with difficult circumstances. Sometimes it’s a relatively minor event such as a lost sale, a poor grade or a fender bender. Coping with the small problems usually involves some readily available remedy. We can pursue new accounts, seek tutorial assistance or contact our automobile insurance agent. Other times, we simply ignore the problem. After all, we’re used to a certain level of disappointment in life. But sooner or later, life’s major misfortunes will touch each one of us.

At some point in time, almost everyone will suffer a major illness. Few will be spared the grief brought on by the death of close friends and relatives. These things are completely unavoidable. They just happen. Personal and societal illnesses such as crime, divorce and drug abuse are avoidable to some extent, but, unfortunately, their perpetrators and victims are a regular part of life around us.

Some people seem to be better suited to handle major crises as they arise, yet others are less able to travel through the tougher times. They find it difficult to cope. Often, there are no real answers for the questions they ask. For these people, life becomes the desperation of keeping a hope that seems far away. The result of this breakdown can be depression, despondency and a regression toward suicidal thoughts or actions.

Friends, relatives and co-workers struggle to understand what is going on with those who suffer so long and so deeply. Plenty of well-meaning people try to help, offering what they believe to be short-cuts to healing, but most give up in frustration when they don’t perceive significant progress within some preconceived "schedule of recovery". Attempts at assistance turn into deeds of disappointment, further compounding strain on the relationship. Finally, as neither side sees a solution, each withdraws. From that point on, those who are suffering fall into an ever tightening downward spiral of despair.

Since few resources even acknowledge the needs of those who are so desperately reaching out, this web site deviates from every semblance of the status-quo in writing. It is a collage of personal testimonies, devotions and prayers from and for those who have experienced great personal need. You will also find a host of biblical examples, applications and discussions which shed light on the circumstances, actions, thoughts and emotions we endure. Finally, you will find a wealth of scriptural references which have sustained so many for so long. This site is not so much about how people get to the point of utter hopelessness, rather where and why they turn for the hope that sustains them.

If you find this site in the midst of your own suffering, know that there are no simple answers. Instead, take hold of the hope and receive the encouragement of those who want to share with you. Be assured that there is a way - a path out of the darkness. Know that there is truth - a light and an unequivocal counsel that penetrates the lies you might believe about yourself and the troubles you face. But most of all, through the testimonies and scriptures, I pray that you will discover the value of your life - as God sees it.
