Memorial Day, May 26, 2003, was very special indeed for the Wheat family and friends of Pearl River County, MS, when markers were dedicated in recognition of five members of the John Wheat family for their service in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Confederate States of America in the War Between the States.

Mr. Andy Kincaid, of the Bernardo Galvez Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution served as Master of Ceremonies.  Participants from the SAR included officers from the Bernardo Galvez Chapter and Mr. Paul Cartwright, Mississippi SAR President.  The Daughters of the American Revolution were represented by the Picayune, MS Chapter officers and Mrs. Cindy Phillips, Regent Mississippi DAR.

The War of 1812 reresentatives included Mrs. Mable Clark and Mr. Roy Wilkinson as speakers, with many others participating. 

Sons of Confederate Veterans units represented were the Gainesville Volunteers, Augusta Greys, Jones County Rosin Heels, and the Nathan Bedford Forrest Camp.  Over 20 Confederate Flags were on display.

WLOX TV, Biloxi, MS sent camerman Mr. Al Showers to cover the event which was featured splendidly on the 10:00PM News.
