Septembersong a Great Fundraiser for Schepis Museum

The first of what is hoped to be an annual series of pops concerts to benefit the Schepis Museum was held on September 25, 1999 at the lovely antebellum home of Dr. Mike Wheelis in Natchez, MS. Columbia's Riverside Concert Band and the St. Joseph Symphony provided musical entertainment for more than 400 patrons. A catered dinner was provided by the Friends of the Schepis.

Dr. Wheelis has offered his home for annual Septembersong concerts, and the next is already in the planning stages for September 23, 2000. The Riverside Concert Band has been asked to make a return appearance.

Main Street Columbia has a close relationship with the Schepis, as it is the focal point for downtown development and is the most unique building in Columbia. Structural problems at the building will soon necessitate major renovations that will involve taking it down to bare outside walls and foundation. The Schepis Foundation has applied for grant money that may cover the vast majority of the cost of this project, but matching fund will be required. Main Street commends the Friends of the Schepis in staging fundraising activities such as Septembersong, and encourages everyone in the community to support them by attending fundraisers, buying from the museum shop, or donations of money to this very worthy cause.
