A Love Story

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived:
Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others including Love. One
day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all
repaired their boats and left.

Love wanted to persevere until the last possible moment. When the island
was almost sinking, Love decided to ask for help. Richness was passing
by Love in a grand boat. Love said, "Richness, can you take me with
you?" Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver
in my boat. There is no place here for you."

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful
vessel, "Vanity, please help me!" "I can't help you Love. You are all
wet and might damage my boat." Vanity answered.

Sadness was close by so Love asked for help, "Sadness, let me go with
you." "Oh....Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"

Happiness passed by Love too, but she was so happy that she did not even
hear when Love called her!

Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come Love, I will take you." It was an
elder. Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that he even forgot to ask the
elder his name. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went his own
way.

Love realizing how much he owed the elder and asked Knowledge, another
elder, "Who helped me?" "It was Time," Knowledge answered. "Time?" asked
Love. "But why did Time help me?" Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and
answered, "Because, only Time is capable of understanding how great Love
is."

MY HOBBIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Since 1990, when I began having piano lessons, I have become attached to music. I have been playing the instrument for eight years and have successfully passed prac tical exams Grades 1-7, most of which have been with the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, and theory, Grades 1-5. I study at the Academy of Music 2 hours a week and attend performing arts concerts whenever possible. I have performed in nu merous concerts at the Academy, played in the Bulawayo Philharmonic orchestra and played for school assemblies. At school, I take part in choir and marimbas and have been awarded a music and choir bar.

I love writing letters and reading Stephen King books which I\rquote ve only just become exposed to. I also enjoy collecting stamps, as I am one of the few in my family that have the patience for it. I collect mainly from the States, Australia, the UK, South Africa and Zimbabwe. I started this hobby with my gran a few years ago I am very interested in horse riding and do that once, sometimes twice a week. I also enjoy rock climbing and abseiling with my father in the Matopos, although I don't do this as often as I used to.

I have been invited to be a camp leader on two Scripture Union Camps for children in Grades 5-7 at a school in Marondera. The camps were 12 days long and I thoroughly enjoyed them as I like working with children. I am currently leading a children\rquote s youth group as well, and have been for a year.

MY PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

I intend to go further in my education. My intentions are to write my Advanced Level subjects (Accounts and Management of Business) and Typing and then go on to study hotel management at college probably outside of the country, and preferably overseas. My ambition is to manage or even own an hotel one day because I enjoy meeting and mixing with new people from all over the world, as well as travelling.

FOREIGN TRAVEL

I have many relatives and friends that live in South Africa and nearly every year, we have a family Holiday on the beach. At the beginning of this year, I visited my friend in Port Elizabeth when the family went on their holiday to Durban. I stayed there for 2 weeks and it was a great experience to be indep endent, away from my parents. In July I went on a school tour to the Grahamstown Arts Festival in South Africa for a week which was absolutely amazing.

MY DISLIKES

I don't enjoy failing in what I attempt. Although I like to try things, and I'm not a fussy eater; I don't think I could bring myself to eat eyes or brain. Frogs, crocodiles and snakes are amongst my less favourite animals and waking up early on a Monday morning is not the greatest. I believe in equality to a certain extent so I can say th at I strongly dislike sexism as well as child abuse in the world today. I also feel that discrimination against another person because of the colour of their skin is intolerable.

Don't always express my feelings.

MY 1999 SCHOOL CAREER

Currently, I am in the Lower 6 Form, the second last year of high school in Zimbabwe and doing an "A" (Advanced) Level Course in Accounting and Business Management, as well as Typing and Word Processing as Pitmans subjects. The morning sessions at school are divided into 8 periods, each 40 minutes long. I also spend an afternoon once a week doing another lesson in Typing. I chose these particular subjects because they were new to me and it seemed like a challenge. They will be very useful to me when I leave scho ol and study hotel management.

THESE ARE, IN MY OPINION, THE 4 MAJOR ISSUES CONFRONTING THE WORLD TODAY

AIDS.
War.
Racism.
The Economic Structural Adjustment Program.

AIDS - I think that this killer disease has been recognised in this country as AIDS awarenes s programmes have been launched in schools, factories, businesses, etc, as well as advertising on televisions and in newspapers. It is not unusual now to hear that someone has died of AIDS because it's become part of our lives. Already the disease has devastated many families and more and more of the younger generation, but on a larger scale, at the rate that the disease is spreading, the predicted death rate will cause even bigger economic problems in Zimbabwe.

MY PARENTS

My father is currently the Managing Director of Turnall Fibre Cement both in Bulawayo and Harare with 1000 employees under him and has been there since the beginning of the year. My mom is busy enough at home as you can imagine looking after a family of six, although she used to be a radiographer. We definitely keep her on her toes all day.

MY COMMUNITY

Bulawayo has a population of approximately 1 million and is the centre of many industries. I live in Malindela, a low-density housing suburb of Bulawayo. Our house is conveniently close to my school and within walking distance of the shops, and a sports club. My room is painted blue and fairly small, and consists of two single beds, a dressing table, and a desk that I use for my schoolwork and writing letters. An added advantage is probably the swimming pool, which is right outside my room.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

I first did public speaking when I was in junior school, which I enjoyed, but regrettably could not continue with at high school, as I did not have the time. I have, however done several Bible readings in Church as well as given short talks to Grade 7 children at a Scripture Union Camp. Although I have never found speaking in front of a large audience easy, it is not the terrifying ordeal it used to be.
