~Poetic Thoughts~

"Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility: the emotion is contemplated till by a species of reaction the tranquility gradually disappears, and an emotion, kindred to that which was before the subject of contemplation, is gradually produced, and does itself actually exist in the mind. In this mood successful composition generally begins, and in a mood similar to this it is carried on..."

The Cowboy

(Myth or Fiction)

by Mike Lara

They say that the cowboy's
a fast-dying breed,
And technology's the lasso
that roped in his steed.
Instead of fences to mend
and cattle to round up,
He's figuring taxes
where it's numbers he rounds up.
And where would the Ol' West be
if Roy Rogers and Autry,
Instead of chasing the bad guys
had been writing good poetry.
But to tell you the truth
I don't miss yesteryear,
Cause that ol' macho image
was just a bum steer.
So just give me a home
where you can roam in the buff, alone,
And the cloud on the title's O.K.
